| Coconut oil for ear? Precious's ear has been a bit inflamed/red & has a waxy substance in the flap/outer part. I've researched that coconut oil is good & natural for ear infections. Has anyone here tried that method? Has it worked well for you? Also, how did you apply it? I read that you just put a few drops in |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Before doing anything, you should get this diagnosed properly. This could be yeast/candida - to be sure though, it'd have be sampled and then grown out in culture.

| You should never put coconut oil topically on a dog. It creates a warm environment and is food for yeast to grow. If you want to give it orally that is fine, but it does not give the same benefit as fish oil. Dogs do not digest it as much. A good over the counter cleaner to have Epi Oti Advanced or Duoxo Micellar. Last edited by Buddylove86; 01-29-2017 at 03:36 PM. |

| Follow Karen Helton Rhodes Canine Skin Solutions on facebook she is a veterinary dermatologist! She gives a lot of good advice and dispels a lot of rumors like coconut oil. Veterinarians chuckle a bit when they here people are using it. The only thing would be to use it in the homemade cocktail to keep the paws soft and not dry out in the winter. |

Before coconut oil, I used olive oil which was good. When Max was a puppy, he developed a little bump on top of his head. The vet wanted to remove it when he was neutered. I dabbed olive oil on it and the bump disappeared in 3 days. Probably just a sebaceous cyst, which he has had a few of over the years. I also use coconut oil on the boys' gums and teeth and I believe it makes a difference. That said, I would never use it in their ears. We had our first ear infection here recently and I took 7 year old Teddy to the vet and got ear drops. Save
