| Kennell Cough ? Just rescued a 3 year old Yorkie 8 days ago. Not that familiar with the breed. After a few days we noticed he was sneezing a lot and coughing although it sounds more like he is gasping for air ? Took him to the Vet who said he was developing kennel cough and gave us medication for the cough. Well he is almost out of medication and whenever he gets excited he starts making a sound like he is gasping for air ? Should I wait until the medications are gone, or should I take him back to the Vet ASAP ? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. We have no idea of his background since he was brought in to the shelter as a stray. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | He probably got the kennel cough from the actual kennel cough vaccine - was it given by the rescue where you got him from...? Btw, the kennel cough vaccine is not a core vaccine, so I would not get it again. Get these episodes he's having on your phone's video. It could be the kennel cough, but it also sounds like it's reverse sneezing. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...d-trachea.html

| Welcome to YT, just a "tip" when ever I get a new med from my vet, I always ask "how long before I will see some improvement". 1-Finish the med the vet gave you. 2-Try to keep him calm during this time to avoid the gasping for air breathing. 3-when med is finished if he still has this cough THEN take him back to your vet. Please keep us posted how this little guy is doing and Thank you for rescuing this precious little boy.

| It can sometimes take two rounds of antibiotics to clear kennel cough. You also may want to ask about collapsing trachea.

| Vet persuaded me to give a kennel cough vaccine to my baby. He got sick 2 days later and it lasted 6 months. He went through 3 different courses of antibiotic. In your case it could be that he has collapsing trachea as well. I would get a scan to be sure. |

| There really isn't a scan per say to diagnose Ct.
