| heartworm meds I looked at Wylie's Mom list of heartworm meds. My question is does anyone else have a very picky little yorkie? Cooper is now 15 months old and I've been able to mask the flavor of heartgard before. But now the last two doses have been almost impossible to get down him. I could bread it in bits and forcibly push it down his throat, but I really don't want to do that unless I have to. I've soaked in it tuna water and mushed it up with a little tuna and he ate maybe a third and that was it. This time I soaked it in water and made a mush and one of his favorites - a bit of taco meat... ya I know that probably isn't the best but he will eat that in tiny bits. (He is a very very picky eater). Nope... would not eat it. When he was little I could mask little bits in a piece of cheese just fine. He is getting smarter or his nose is at least. Any suggestions? Has anyone heard of liquid medication that you could use a dropper to administer? |

| I don't like topicals, but I know people who use Revolution for heartworm protection. It also protects against other parasites. There is a link below from the University of Tennessee which is outdated since it's from 2009. Despite that, it has some good information. Revolution - Home http://www.vet.utk.edu/diagnostic/pa...edications.pdf

| Sentinel in a little gob of peanut butter. When I start to open the package that contains the pill, even before I get out the peanut butter, they come running.

| I think that's the one that had been pulled off shelves at one point and put back on and is dangerous but I could be wrong.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | There were some pretty severe and scary issues with this, so I'd proceed with a lot of caution. Just fyi .

| Thanks everyone. I will talk to the vet about your suggestions. Cooper is so picky that he won't even eat peanut butter.... go figure. He will eat the kibble just fine, but human foods it is hit and miss. He just loves cheese which is how I used to hide it. But now he will not. He likes any type of meat, cheese and 1 fruit... tiny chunks of apple, but of course no peel. He will spit that part out. Lol. They are funny little dogs, My husband and I just love this little one! Oh and I forgot one thing that is not the best......he likes to clean my spoon with a little ice cream. |

| Have you tried the pill in melted cheese? I slightly melt mozzarella cheese and surround the pill with the cheese. It melts around it. It's more difficult to get to than cream cheese. Interceptor was ofF the market for a long time, but I don't think there are any problems related to it, other than the usual side effects that all medication can have. I was giving Katie Heartgard, but when Interceptor came back on the market, my vet switched her to that. Interceptor is a small pill. My vet is very careful with vaccines and medications, so I trust that it's safer than others. If you still can't give a pill, I'd talk to the vet about Revolution, which is a topical. Good luck.

| Last night I tried the mozzarella trick and the little bugger worked and worked in his mouth and just when I thought he had eaten it (about the size of 1/2 pea) he looks up at me like I want some more...... and there on the floor is that piece of medicine laying on the floor. I even told my husband to play with him for a little bit so I could unwrap it and hide it while I was putting it in the cheese. He really does not like that stuff...lol |
