| Charlie won't eat dog food! Mom feeding him human food. Hi everyone! I got charlie when he was 4 months old and his old family fed him caesars wet dog food. After doing research I came to the conclusion that it's probably not the best food for him. I was living with my parents at the time that I got him and my mom would freak out if he didn't eat anything and started feeding him chicken and carrots mixed with his kibble. Is this ok?? I tried to ween him off of that and make him eat his kibble but my mom always gave in and gave him chicken/turkey/yogurt. Now that i am on my own for the last two days in an apartment he has not touched his food since last night at 7. I even gave in and put some chicken in his dog food and heated it up as he's a little princess and loves his food warm. I just don't know what to do? I'm scared that he's not eating and that he may be stressed from the move and the new environment? Any suggestions? |

| Your baby has had many changes just take place in his life, losing family member (your mom) new surroundings, new sounds, smells. I think giving him some time to adjust he will be fine. Do what you have to do to keep him eating, all dogs adjust differently, I would give him a month, that is enough time for him to have adjusted to his new life and surroundings. If you want to stop the chicken then do it after he has adjusted to this move. If he likes his food warm I see no harm in that. My boy will only eat dry crunchy kibble so that's what he gets.....All dogs are creatures of habit, once you start something it is very hard to break that habit. A healthy dog will eat when he's hungry, a healthy dog will NOT starve himself. How old is your baby and what does he weigh, these are important factors when it comes to a baby not eating.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If you need to add some chicken to his kibble to get him to eat - don't worry about it, it's okay. The deal is that you don't want the chicken to exceed about 15% of his total diet or it will be out of balance for his health. So, shred the chicken finely so you can get it mixed throughout the kibble and give like that. Also, you may want to try something easier -- try sprinkling powdered Parmesan Cheese onto his kibble - works like a charm for many dogs!

| My mother fed our Chihuahuas that we had during my teen years, boiled chicken, green peas or green beans, spoonful of chopped veggies that come frozen in a bag (she used to make her veggie soup with that bag of veggies)....momma fed that to every Chihuahua we ever had, and they all lived to be at least 12 years old, and were healthy as horses, never sick a day in their lives. As my yorkies age and loose their teeth, I have tried different things to keep them eating....canned RC for seniors works well for them, but by golly, they all adore mommas menu of boiled chicken, rice, green peas, green beans, chopped veggis for veggi soup......so I may end up just going there with my devoted seniors..... |

| Maybe your dog was stress that's why he's not eating and I think it was okay provided he still drinks. Just give him some time. Also, I think it's just okay to give him some chicken/turkey and carrots, what I am not sure about it yogurt. |
