YT 500 Club Member | Oh no! Just keep him clean and you too. Make sure he poops outside. Get to the vet soon. I'm not sure if humans can gets these or not. He should have been dewormed before you brought him home.

| It's probably a tapeworm, which comes out in segments and can look like multiple worms or like pieces of dried rice. The vet will want a stool sample to confirm. There are a couple different meds that the vet has to take care of the problem easily. I think it can be passed to humans, but it would be difficult. You would have to eat something that I'm pretty you won't eat. Dogs get the tapeworm from eating an infected flea. My Max had a tapeworm. We did not have fleas, so he must have picked it up outside eating something. Here is my thread about it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...tapeworms.html

| If they are long white worms (like spaghetti) they are probably roundworm which is one of the most common. Tapeworm typically come off in segments, like Kristen said, that look like a little grain of rice. Piperzine is effective as a roundworm medication but it would be more likely that you would be prescribed pyrantel/praziquantel since that covers round worm, hook worm, whip worm and then two types of tapeworm or fenbendazole which covers the first three and the more common type of tape- I would suspect your vet will be inclined to a broad spectrum dewormed since worms are clearly present and some varieties that your pet might be dealing with don't even present in a fecal sample. Some parasites are transferable to humans, like giardia (also treated, usually in conjunction with additional meds like flagyl, by fendbendazole) but for the most part we don't usually pick them up. Good hand washing and potty time practices are very important. I am sure everything will be okay and your vet will help you guys get back on track
