| Can I Feed My Yorkie Babyfood I have an 8 month old yorkie and her coat looks dry and thin. I'm feeding her a dry dogfood from Petfood Express. However, reading about yorkies on blogs it sounds like home cooked meals are better for them. Im wondering if babyfood is a good alternative for my baby yorkie, Mia? Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea or a no no? Thankyou for your support. |

| If you home cook you have to make sure it's balanced and your using a recipe from a vet nutritionist or you could really do more harm then good. If you talking about just putting a little baby food with her dog food that's fine as long as there is no onion or garlic in it but it is not for dogs so it's not balanced for them so you could not use it as her primary food source.

| Adding fish oil or coconut oil to her food can really shine up her coat. I feed Lilah jarred chicken only baby food only when she is unwell and needs a little extra reason to eat- it is not balanced with vitamins and minerals and is not a complete food so it would not be an option to have her only on this. My girl loves her vegetables, carrots and English cucumbers are her very favorite treat, using pure veggies or pure meats as a little topper shouldn't do any harm so long as it is not replacing a large portion of their diet. Like Taylor said, make sure there are no onions or garlic- choose first foods for the most part I would say because they are typically a single ingredient. Watch out for salt. Beech nut single ingredient chicken is only chicken and broth, we use that one when we are looking for an appetite stimulant.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | No, I would not give babyfood bc it's balanced for human babies, not AAFCO balanced for a dog's very specific nutrient needs. In fact, you could make things worse to be honest. What brand of food are you feeding? I'd just feed a top notch food and perhaps supplement w/ some fish oil or coconut oil.

| It's better to ask this with nutritionist! If the food that he eats reflect to his health like dry skin or like thin coating as you said it's better to ask the expert! I'm not that expert but I have some experience about this before! About the coating and skin you can use virgin coconut oil, they are a lot of benefit that dog can get while using that product, and also I've learned that exoticonlinepetstore published about the right food to give to our dog and it's very helpful for me. Humans and dog are not the same that's why you need to be careful of what you feed to them because it will affect their health. But home made cook with the right ingredients and fresh ingredients is one of the best option for our baby. And the most important ingredients that we add to their food while prepare it is Tender Loving Care |
