My sweet baby Yorkie Miley has lymphoma stage 4. Just found out-have an appointment this afternoon and have to decide whether I want to have chemo for her or not. One minute yes then no. So you see the delimitation I am in. Do not want her to be pain. Please help me. It has taken me two days to get on this site. Sorry for missed spelling-I am so upset!!!

I am so very sorry about your baby's dx. Stage 4 is not hopeless but it is not not a good grade. I, personally, would not do chemo at this stage. You should let the vet give you all the details and then you can make your decision based on facts. If it were me I would give my baby pain drugs when the time came and let her live out her days as normal as possible. God bless you and your little one.

liliemae on here went through this with her guy and she has very strong opinions as they worked and worked well. I don't know what stage he was, as our conversation was months back. I DO know she did holistic along with the therapy. Again, no idea what stage he was, but it was such a fantastic outcome. I hopes she sees this post.

Depends on the age of the dog and the quality of life, in my opinion. So sorry you are going through this.

This is a very hard decision & one that takes lots of consideration. My Sparky has Lymphoma & it was stage 4. he went through the chemo BUT we also contacted a Holistic Vet who sent us vitamins & supplements & recipes for diet for sparky WHILE he had the Chemo & I FULLY believe this is why Sparky hardly missed a beat & is still the same little booger he's always been aside from his aging. Sparky has been in remission for 4 years now & he was 9 yrs old when he was diagnosed. He did develope a shake from the Chemo but it does not seem to phase him in the least.. it's kind of a little tremor in his hind legs mostly but does not slow him down from running up & down the stairs & running all over our back yard. I hope this helps. My DH & I agreed that if at any time during Sparkys treatment it appeared to be too much for Sparky, we would STOP treatment .

I hesitated to post on this thread, as my memories are painfull. But at stage four I would elect palliative care along with holistic treatments.

And like Brit said the age of the dog is a factor and other underlying.ing health conditions plus expected future quality of life.

I lost two pets to cancer within two years. Zoey had lymphoma. She lasted six wks from diagnosis date. I believe she had stage 4 as well. She underwent the full Madison Wisconsin chemo protocol. However she did. Tolerate the chemo well enough. There is something like a five to ten percent survival rate for this cancer in canines. The treatment cost and this was four yrs ago was approx 4500. Details of our journey can be found in please pray for Zoey thread.

Our 11 year old got lymphoma and we opted not to do chemo because you have to keep them from other dogs and stuff and it is not a cure and will only put it in reidmession once and it will come back. We put our guy on steroids until he started having breathing issues and we helped him to rainbow bridge. It really has to be your choice though. I'm so very sorry.

As far as keeping them from other dogs, this is Partially true. While they are in treatment they can be around YOUR other pets but it's not recommended that you take them for walks so it's best that they are homebodies until after treatments are done. Sparky LOVES to just go for car rides & he was still able to do that. Also the cost of treatment depends where you live , Sparkys treatments cost us around $3,500 .

I am so sorry.... and I do understand your pain.

I was told early June that my Remy had a brain tumor. I really did not know what to do. My advise is get all the information you can; here, from your vet, from a specialist vet, reliable sites on the internet etc. When you have all the information and more details about cost and that effect on your family, you can choose a path.
