| If you really want to nail this down, I would make an appt with a board certified veterinary internist and bring all your labs with you. They can interpret all of this for you and retest if necessary including an ultrasound of the kidneys. I wouldn't be concerned if this was my dog and I would do nothing except test her blood and urine routinely every 6-9mos. A BUN of 28 is practically normal. A USG can be all over the place. It can vary with diet, time of day, etc so your vet really needs to look at the whole picture. What is the creatinine?

| Cathy the more I look over the years of lab works the more frustrated and a little angry I become. This is the complete history of the bun, creatine and ratio since she was a year old. Year Bun Creatine Ratio 16 23 .08 28.8 15 22.5 .06 no ratio was given & this is when she was sick 14 25 .09 28 13 24 .08 30 12 26 .06 43.3 CH 11 24 .08 30 CH Sorry I had this typed as a chart but it posted closer together, hope you can understand it I now see that since she was young she has always had a high B/C ratio, except for the last lab tests all were done by the same vet and she never said anything about it. Plus at least three of the tests especially the high ones had no values next to the ratio nor were they marked high, so until now I did not even know they were high. I read that one of the contributing factors is dehydration, Lola does not act or look dehydrated but I have said ever since I can remember she her she hardly drinks water, we can come in after a long walk and she turns her head up when I try to get her to drink. I figure if I give her some water by force that will be less she will drink out of her bowl so I don't know what to do and I hate to start feeding her wet food.

| All of her individual BUN and creatinine values are normal. The ratio is not a concern unless she is already on a reduced protein diet (and she is not, correct?) If you go back a few posts you'll see a similar result on Winston. It's not a concern.

| no she is not on reduced protein food, well that is good to hear, just not sure what to think any longer. I just spoke to the doctor at the IDEXX lab because I was curious why there lab does not include a range or note high or low when Antech did, she was not supposed to talk with me, but she did and was pretty helpful and also said that I should not be concerned. We also spoke about the urine test and that for the SG part having it sent to a lab out of state is Ok since that part of the test is not time sensitive. I think I am just going to put all the lab reports away, find a middle of the road food and retest in 6 months and then make a decision if I need a specialist. thanks for all your info
