| Sensitive stomach Too often Eddy has stomach problems which he does not eat for 1.5 days, you can hear sounds from his stomach, or poop is loose. During his uneasy times he is still playful so we are seeking advice for food/treat recommendations. Plenty of visits to the vet and given meds which have helped like Carafate but diet really has not been talked about. See what you thing. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Sorry to hear Eddy is having tummy problems. What food and treats does he eat normally? One of my boys is sensitive, so we are very strict about what we feed him. We stick to his kibble and small set of treats in very small quantities that we know work for him. For instance, he gets 2 tiny pinches of grated parmesan cheese as a treat once a day. Although he is a 9 pound boy, all it takes is a little more of that cheese to give him a loose stool. Fruit does not agree with him. Veggies, we limit and give in tiny quantities. He does well with steamed, plain chicken breast and rice.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome! How odd that diet hasn't been discussed as that can easily be the exact culprit. What are you currently feeding, exactly, for food/kibble and/or treats? How old is Eddy and when did this start happening?

| eddy is 8yrs old and 5.5 pounds tiny guy so we take him everywhere and he loves that. Past year his food consisted of chicken breast, fresh pet, turkey deli meat, American cheese all mixed together but we started this weekend on Nutro (chicken, rice, oatmeal) wet food and past two days he has loved it. Treats have been all natural but many different types we just started with Nutro Natural Choice biscuits (sensitive stomach). We are done giving him those other treats so just these new biscuits and a few times a day American cheese as a treat. This a better diet now? |

| American cheese has a lot of fat in it and can put Yorkies at risk for pancreatitis. I would hold the cheese, or substitute fresh parmesan which is lower fat. Powdered grated parmesan is usually loaded with salt. But if he continues to have tummy problems, discontinue all cheese. Lunch meats also have a lot of salt, so good to discontinue that. One thing that Wylie's Mom often mentions is gerd, acid reflux, related to tummy problems. Salt can be a contributing factor. Nutro is a controversial brand. You can google some of the complaints about the manufacturer. My oldest boy ate it when he was a pup and didn't have problems, but we switched brands. Next time you are at the vet with a tummy problem, definitely discuss diet.

| Eddy had a great week we have been feeding him Nutro Natural Choice wet dog food "small breed" and his stomach and stool has been great. There are a few flavors so we will make sure which ones do not agree with him. A happy Eddy is a happy set of parents. |

| My oldest baby, Zeus, is 18 months old and is having sensitive stomach issues. He had basically quit eating and was throwing up the yellow/orange foamy stomach bile. He was treated for ulcers and has acid reflux. He is currently on Pepcid (which I had to order from Petmeds to get a low enough milligram for dosing). We also had to change his food to Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach for Small Breed kibble. Thankfully, he likes it better than the other food he ate. He will not eat canned/wet food -- he's very snotty about food. He can't stand the smell of it. After a couple of weeks on the meds and new food, I am happy to report that he is much, much better. Definitely wants to eat and has no reflux issues. Good luck with your baby! |

| Mine has a sensitive tummy, he is on Royal Canin low fat gastro. He was doing fine on it till stupid me brushed his teeth with a pet tooth gel that had aloe in it. Big mistake. Aloe causes diarrhea. Of coarse that was my fault and he'd probably still be doing well on the Royal Canin. I'd try that, you can get it at your vet. My Jakey loves the taste and gobbles it up. I'd also suggest Natural Balance limited ingredients. I hear dogs with sensitive tummies do well on that and they have small bites versions which is good. Big kibble is hard to digest. My Jake gets the Natural Balance lamb & rice treats and he can tolerate them. Sometimes sensitive tummies do well with low fat, sometimes it's an allergy to something in the food like chicken by products. It's work trying to find the right balance, I'm still learning myself. Good luck to you and Eddy. |

| HI "we" are also new to YT. Casey is just 2 very picky eater.... I travel a lot and he comes everywhere with me. Long story short... He had stomach issues and the vet prescribed Royal Canin GI wet cans. He gobbled it but I ran out on vacation (was on an extended amount since I was traveling vet thought it best to be safe.... ). When I ran out she said to use Hills Science diet (Sensitive Stomach) and he does eat it if I add water, low fat cheese (sprinkled) or was using freeze dried chicken sprinkled too (not raw) I heard HSD is not good for Yorkies - what should I do .... Was thinking of RC for yorkies or Merick help lol |

| I am amazed to see this thread. GiGi has had a sensitive tummy going on 3 yrs. now. It started one summer with mild loose stool that didn't clear up as fast as it should. Then it got worse every summer after that. She is now on only home cooked food usually boiled turkey with sweet potatoes. Being that she is pretty stable on that I started giving her a (human size) teaspoon of yogurt for the probiotics....should be good for the flora in the tummy. A bout a week ago I gave her a little too much apple and now she is in the semi loose stool phase and had a day with no eating cause of the gas in the tummy (that is the rumbling you hear) when they choose not to eat. So I am feeding her white fish with bits of bread to try to clear up the loose stool so I can bring her back to the turkey and sweet potatoes. Btw the white fish is all she will accept to eat when her tummy is out of whack. Then she will get tired of that and we go back to the turkey. I have learned to listen to what she wants to eat when her tummy is off cause she is always right. I used to try to give her dog food and she would eat it a get sick all over again...so I stopped all dog food...and she is much better and does not even miss it, not much anyway. She has already been to a specialist and he checked her out and said feed her fat free and adjust her diet with food no meds. So maybe we can all get together and figure this out. I believe it is colitis. tina

| Hi all.... Problem starting again...I think I see this usually as something I fed her instead of something she has.....BUT...this is going into her second day of rejecting food of all types (tried fish, turkey and chicken, no good) she ate a small bit of cheese (I only gave her taste to see if she had any appetite at all). But now today with nothing in her tummy since her last meal on Thursday night she threw up a tiny of food and some brown (dark tan), I guess it would be bile. I am now thinking that since she has not eaten, and she did poop once yesterday and the prior days and the poop was pretty normal that she herself has something. Like maybe I should start giving her Pepcid AC. Any thoughts....am I beginning to see this more clearly? That is it her system rejecting food rather than the food being too fatty or something or other? tina
