Yorkie Talker | anyone tried tick/flea collars for dogs? both of my two puppies love water. So, after applying medicine on the back of their neck, the medicine seems to wear out after 3~4 times of bathing and swimming. I've found some tick/flea collar for dogs - it seems convenient. Discount flea tick treatments, heart & intestinal worming dogs & cats collar - Free Shipping at Chewy.com - chewy.com seems a bit more expensive than petbucket, as I expected. I was not aware of the fact that these things come into the form of 'collar.' I think it's a wonderful solution for my dogs. I googled a bit, and found out that it could not be as much effective as I expected. Has anyone tried this? Please enlighten me |

| I personally do not like those collars....I have had 3 dogs over the years, have bad reaction to those collars....I put one on my brothers beagle way back in 1985......made him twitch and jerk with fine motor tremors.....15 years later, I tried one on one of my yorkies....middle of the night, restless, jerking and twitching and fine motor tremors....did I learn?????? oh noooooooooooooo! Tried yet again...and had the very same results in my yorkie...tremors, restlessness, jerky movments, .....I do NOT recommend these collars....everytime I have used one on a dog of mine, I watched neurological issues develop. |

Yorkie Talker | oops, sorry to hear that Quote:
I decided to use the collar from petbucket, but I'm afraid I have to reconsider. Thanks for your advice.

| In the past (yearsssss) ago I use to use flea collars, my babies had bad reactions to them, then Front Line came out. I have used Front Line since it first came out (15+years) I bathe my babies once a week, it does not loose it's effectiveness. I live in a heavily wooded area, deer, bob cats, many feral cats and many other wild critters that carry fleas and ticks. Front Line is applied between the shoulder blades."IF" my pup has one flea on him I will get a couple of Flea collars and place them between my sofa cushions, and that is ALL THEY ARE USED FOR.

Yorkie Talker | I guess it's best not to use them on my cats! Quote:
and I guess it's best not to use them on my babies! They all talk about bad reactions and how toxic they are. Im sorry that your babies had bad reactions oooh, between the sofa cushions, I think it's safer that way. thanks for the tidbit.

| I am not a fan of flea collars either. I am also not a fan of HARTZ flea/tick topical products either as ive seen cats die from being put on this ...I was a vet tech for 8 years, and ive seen it all! I have Fiona and her Sister, Honey ( lab/pitt mix) on REVOLUTION. It's a flea/heart worm preventative, and you can literally bathe your pets about 4 hours after applying it, and it won't risk the effectiveness of the medication. I usually take my dogs off this in winter time, but for some reason with us living all around woods, they are prone to get fleas a lot more easily, so i'll be keeping them on it year round this year.....
