| Welcome to YT and thank you for rescuing this sweet little girl, as for food, I would keep her on what ever the vet had her eating, reason, she will be going through a lot of changes right now, new home, new smells, new schedule and most importantly YOU, a stranger to her. She needs to adjust to all these things, changing the food she was eating while at the vet can cause stomach issues. Give her several weeks to calm down in her new home, give her time to adjust to knowing she is loved, protected and is in her forever home, give her time to build a bond with you and a trust in you. When this is accomplished then you can gradually transition her from what she is eating to the new food of your choice. She is shaken because she is confused, scared, you know nothing about her past, how long she may have lived on the streets, how she was cared for with her prev. owner. Speak in gentle soft tones to her, let her come to you for cuddles, if you pick her up and cuddle her and you feel her body tense up or she wiggles /fights to get loose, set her down, do not force your attentions on her, she needs to know you, trust you, know you will not harm her. Offer her boiled boneless chicken cutlets from your hand. ALL dogs LOVE this. You need to win / gain her trust. Praise her for every positive baby step she takes in gaining your trust. She has a lot of new things, ppl , smells to get use to. Be very patient with her she will come around and your reward will be an over whelming feeling of love for this sweet little baby.

| I am not sure about what you mean about eye build up. If you mean she has a crusty build up, you can use cotton balls wet with warm water, soak the crust to soften it, then try to comb it out or pick it off. I myself would not attempt to do this now if you have had her only a day or 2, again she needs to trust you mean no harm to her. Most dogs if they have a crusty build up hate having that stuff removed, they will fidget and try to brake loose from getting their eyes cleaned. Once you get her eyes cleared of this goo you can clean they with cotton balls wet with warm water, this can come from teary eyes, allergies can also cause eyes to tear.

| Congratulations on your new baby. DITTO to what Joan has said. Patience....New home, rules, smells etc are probably overwhelming her. Give her a nice quiet place she can retreat to if she feels scared. Keep her warm especially in this changing weather. |

Do NOT start something you do not want to lovingly continue!!! I feed Royal Canin, from conception to death, and have done so since the '70's. I have some really tiny babies that were born tiny and have stayed tiny....I do NOT sell my tinies for any amount of $$$$...they stay right here with me....they get Health Extension Little Bites, because it is so tiny, about the size of a BB, for those tiny mouths.....I will crush some of the RC mini Adult, and mix it in with the Little Bites....as my kiddos age, depending on teeth, we go to canned RC Adult Beauty, or Adult Light, or RC Mature..... I let a cousin have a retired male of mine.....I buy her a large bag of RC because of the price....and she softens it with addition of a little Rachel Rays prepared meals, and she also uses something called Variety Mixables which she mixes with the RC kibble to soften it for this precious little seniors mouth, also feeds him Cesar meals, she mixes it with a little cottage cheese and adds it to the RC....as long as she continues to feed him the RC, she can add those other "side dressings to soften the kibble" for his little mouth with few teeth....he is going on 15 years old and is healthy as a horse, so I guess his diet is healthy and it certainly works for him and my cousin cost wise! I just told her to make sure she feeds as much RC as she is feeding the additive.....I wanted him to stay on the RC, so I buy that for her because of the price..... What is this pup eating now? Leave him on what he is eating at the time, he has enough adjustments without having his basic diet all tossed up in the air......After he has been with you 4-5 months, which will give you time to see what you think you want to feed, then you can gradually switch him over if what he is on now is not healthy. | |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If she has a flea allergy going on, it's not surprise she could be very very itchy. If too itchy, give some Benadryl every 4-6 hours and that should help her histamine reaction she is having toward the allergen. For food, I like to recommend Primal, Natures Variety, Natures Logic, Wellness Core, Orijen/Acana, Solid Gold...
