| Yeast Infections Can Yorkies get yeast infections in-between their toes/paw pads? How about vaginal yeast infections? In their ears? My baby girl has been chewing at her paw pads for a couple weeks now. She's also began scratching her left ear incessantly (vet says no mites...he also looked at her paws). Now, this evening she began jumping up from rest as if having a sudden pain. After inspecting her really well I noticed her vulva was very red. I took a cool cloth to clean her and as soon as I touched her she began air-scratching, indicating that her vulva is red AND itchy. Yeast? |

| I'm not sure about yeast in any place other than the ears. My Yorkies have never had yeast infections but my parents Yorkie has yeast infections in his ears all the time. They have told me that they know one is present because their dog starts to scratch and they can smell a "cheesy" odor. Did the vet not suggest it could be yeast? |

| Since she itches on her paws too I wonder if it's from her shampoo or some other product you use on her? We did occasionally see cases of vaginitis or vaginosis (I can't remember the proper term) caused by a primary infection...usually a bladder infection was the primary cause. I do remember my boss saying in rare cases could also be a herpes virus, in promiscuous little girls ;-)....however I do wonder if it's simply a product problem since u did say she's itching and licking her feet as well....I would definately have a recheck at the vet....or even a second opinion from a new vet? |

| Also...if her vulva is itchy for whatever reason that would cause her to jump up from sleep because it's crazy uncomfortable....Still my advice is the same....vet her quickly because she is obviously uncomfortable :-( please keep us posted .... I hope she gets some relief very soon! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, they can get yeast/candida ANYwhere, even systemically. I'd get her to the vet asap....this could be a vaginal infection which would be very, very uncomfortable. Her other itching to her ears and stuff could be allergies, as this is high-pollen season. Did the itching begin at a certain time of the year? Ie, just this spring/summer? Does she have any reddish patches on her tummy, neck, armpits etc?

| All dogs have yeast to some degree...it can get worse by allergies, bacteria or antibiotic therapy. Yeast has to be triggered by some underlying condition but it can be treated. Sugary foods are food for the yeast, if it's food related. Cutting carbs (potatoes, grains, some fruits high in fructose) will help stop fueling the yeast. I have one very yeasty pup & her's is triggered by allergies & bacterial infections. She had numerous skin scrapings w/cytology to confirm this. It's a very simple painless test, they gently scrape the infected skin w/a q-tip or skin scraping tool & look under the microscope. She was on RX shampoos, RX wipes, meds (temaril & benadryl) & even antibiotics, which made it worse. Her ears would fill up w/brown gunk as soon as I cleaned it out, it would be back the next day! She was so itchy, her ears were bleeding & she had a funky smell. Hair was greasy, had crusty scabs on her skin & she would constantly lick her paws, it smelled like fritos. For Princess, the answer was switching to a 100% premade raw diet. I add digestive enzymes & probiotics to their food. I wash her privates & paws every night since we go for walkies everyday. It really helps wash away all the allergens from being outside, pollens, grass dander, dust & dirt. She doesn't lick her paws anymore & her skin is clean. I only use vinegar & water to clean, dryer balls instead of dryer sheets, clean my floors everyday. We have easy to clean floors throughout, laminate & travertine. I just attach a microfiber cloth to a swiffer stick & it picks up a lot of dust. No perfume, no candles, no pesticides, basically creating a clean environment for them.
