| flea and tick prevention I have a question what is everyone's regiment for flea and tick control and heartworm prevention year round? I use to keep my yorkies on revolution and then I heard people say that it doesn't work very well for fleas and ticks even though I never had an issue with it. Then this summer I tried the K9 advantix ll and some of my yorkies got extremely itchy and red skin so I am no longer using that product anymore. I don't know if I want to go back to the revolution or not. I was also considering the sentinel spectrum if anyone has had positive feedback from that and keep them on that year round and just find something to cover ticks in the summer? I dont want keep them on flea and tick year round but I would like to find a good product for heartworm and parasites. Also do the oral meds for heartworm and fleas have the same effectiveness as the topical revolution? Thanks for any help. |

| In my opinion I like heartworm medicine given by mouth rather then topical because I just don't trust the topical for that. I use heartguard for heartworms at the begaining of month and then middle of the month I give nextguard for fleas and ticks.

| I use Sentinel on both of my pups year round and have had no issues with it. In the late spring/summer, we'll add K9 Advantix II for tick coverage maybe every 6 weeks. I have found this regimen to be effective for us. I also prefer the oral forms for fleas year round... don't really like having to apply the topical stuff and only do so in the warmer months just for ticks. I don't think it's less effective if applied correctly (my parents' beagle has always gotten the topical flea prevention and never had any fleas) but I find it kind of messy...and my pups love to roll on their backs or rub up on things after I apply it despite my attempts to distract them...ick! I would definitely look into the Sentinel though...I know many YT members including myself use it year round with success on pups of various ages and sizes. |

| I use Revolution from May to October, every 5 to 6 weeks and never had a problem. I don't like giving him these things because the liver gets damage, but I do use them in the summer months when he can get fleas and ticks. |

| What do you use for heart worms when your not using the revolution? Heart worm prevention should be given year round.

| We have used Revolution for years with no problems. I keep a few Capstars around for just in case flea situations (like at agility trials etc) but no other problems.

| I do Heartguard Plus every month and K9 Advantix for ticks every 6 weeks in the warmer months. We don't use flea/tick meds from around October-late April.

| i have 2 boyz and they love to bite each others neck as play. therefore any external lotions like revolution cannot work for me. I feed a tablet of Excel brand garlic and brewer yeast to my boyz and it works fine, i never have ticks problems on them and they walk on grass at least 3 times a day. tried other brands but none works as good as excel. |

| Yes if u overfeed them. Even vitamins can harm u if u overdose. Garlic can ward off ticks and had anti inflammatory and anti oxidant properties for dogs. As a huge dog supplements manufacture u think Excel would manufacture poison for dogs ? Google it. |

| I have a very trustworthy friend who asked her vet nutristist about garlic and she said that any amount is bad. Company's make things toxic to dogs all the time like the chicken jerky from China and trifexis to name a few. Google is not the end all be all there are false things on there all the time I suggest you actually go to and ask a vet nutristinist who went to school for many years.
