| skinny yorkie I picked up my new foster last week & he's the sweetest little love bug ever! I was given his vet records, and he's up to date on everything. He also seems perfectly healthy except he's very thin. I would like to hold off on taking him to the vet until next month when he will be due for his shots. His former owner said he's so thin because he's a very picky eater. She said he will only eat chicken or cheese, so that is what she's been feeding him! He didn't eat at all the first night he was here, but after that he's been eagerly eating the Earthborn Holistic that the rest of my gang eats. Believe me, he's not a picky eater here! Anyway, I'm wondering if he could be malnourished from eating only chicken & cheese? Do you think I need to take him right in to the vet now, or is it OK to wait a month? He seems totally healthy, he even has sparkling white teeth, and he's sure to gain weight the way he's eating here.

| How old is he? Since he is "up to date on everything" per vet records, what else do vet records show (weight at different times, last stool sample to look for parasites, etc.) Feeding him a well balanced food is the best you can do for him now. Good luck.

| He's 3yr's, and had rabies, dhpp, HW test & fecal in august of last year. His weight was approx the same, 3#'s 8oz. I plan on full blood work in addition to the shots & HW test when I take him next month.

| Well I brought my little foster "Baby" to the vet today. He got a clean bill of health & his rabies shot & HW & fecal tests. Going back in a few weeks for his distemper shot. Anyway, he's been here for about a month, and has gained 2 oz. The vet said it's ok, but I was hoping for a larger gain! Is it just me, or is 2 oz in a month not enough of a gain?

| Oops! Just noticed that your little guy is three years old. Maybe all he needs is some vitamins after all the time he only received chicken and cheese!

I would feed calorie dense treats of things like little bits of cheese and little globs of peanut butter. I think Pam has an excellent idea of giving him some Nutrical 2x a day too - even though he's not a puppy. Nutrical is calorie dense and this is what you're looking for. You could also add some wet food to his kibble.

| They do have nutri-cal that is for adult dogs, it just doesn't have the extra vitamin stuff that the puppy one has.
