Default skinny yorkie

I picked up my new foster last week & he's the sweetest little love bug ever! I was given his vet records, and he's up to date on everything. He also seems perfectly healthy except he's very thin. I would like to hold off on taking him to the vet until next month when he will be due for his shots.

His former owner said he's so thin because he's a very picky eater. She said he will only eat chicken or cheese, so that is what she's been feeding him!

He didn't eat at all the first night he was here, but after that he's been eagerly eating the Earthborn Holistic that the rest of my gang eats. Believe me, he's not a picky eater here!

Anyway, I'm wondering if he could be malnourished from eating only chicken & cheese? Do you think I need to take him right in to the vet now, or is it OK to wait a month? He seems totally healthy, he even has sparkling white teeth, and he's sure to gain weight the way he's eating here.
