| Dogs and food allergies are very common! My setters were wildly allergic to any food with red dye in it. And MANY are sensitive to wheat. We have always fed Higgins organics like Pinnacle, Solid Gold, and now Natural Choice, that are wheat free and have no dyes. Our alternative vet in Florida believes they should eat feed that is close to what they would eat in the wild and believes that chicken based feeds are good for small breeds. She thinks beef is just too rich and says "When did you ever see a Yorkie bring down a cow?" Of course, she doesn't know my Higgins, who probably COULD bring down a cow! |

| Keep us posted on how she's doing. Hopefully it was just the food.

| Hi Bettyanne, thanks for the kind words and you do have one thing right they're our babies and i do worry. So far today the change in diet seems to have very good results. No more blood at all and for the most part her stools are firm and look alot more like they should so maybe the food we were giving her just wasnt agreeing. I'm holding my breath hoping for the same results tomorrow and i'll feel alot more comfortable that we have the solution to Roxee's problem. And by the way its so very nice to have a place like this to come were people understand what your going through it really does mean alot so thanks again everyone. |

| Thanks, Stormchaser! Glad things are finally getting better for Roxee! We were so upset when Toto had her surgery [spaying/teeth removal] I held her for the next two days, only letting Patrick hold her long enough for me to go to the bathroom!! Didn't even leave her long enough to shower! She "bounced" right back and a few days later was ripping around the house like nothing had happened! I think it was really harder on us than it was on her. We have spoiled her and she is a very picky eater! We got a scolding from Dr. Lucy and now have her on "Natural Balance" [comes in a roll like hamburger] ... I give her about 1-2 tablespoons chopped in tiny pieces twice a day. I microwave it for about 15-20 seconds wrapped in Saran Wrap and add a teaspoon of sour cream, parm or finely shredded yellow w/jack cheese! She loves it! I also keep her a little dish of Royal Canin Yorkshire 28 available in case she wants anything more. She usually leaves the Royal Canin for a little snack off & on ... or just tosses it up in the air & plays with it for awhile, then eats it!! I give her about 2-3cc of the veterinary formula Nutri-Cal once a day so I can be sure she is getting plenty of nutrients and of course fresh water available at all times. I only give her bottled water [we have a problem with "local" water upsetting our systems so we just make it a practice ... new location ... same bottled water! ] Along with her dog food ... I occasionally give her finely chopped apple, pear or other fruit ... she also loves Gerber Gratuates green beans and carrots! If Roxee's problem is diet ... I would think that after you try a few different foods you will hit on one that agrees with her and she will thrive!! I would suggest that you try "new things" just one at the time ... if it upsets her system you will readily know that it was the "new thing"! Good luck!

| <sighing with relief> I am sooooo glad to hear the Roxee is better! Good advice from Bettye! Make changes to her diet slowly and give her bottled water. We take bottled water along when we travel, too. For us and for the dogs. A change in local water can sure upset their little tummies. At home, their systems are used to our well water, so that's okay. Give Roxee and extra squeeze from me and Higgins! |

| You know the funny thing about all of this is the fact that Roxee is doing so well other wise. She's very active and is gaining weight very well. At her last checkup she weighed 2 lbs 7.5 oz. and she's just turned 12 weeks old so her problems with her diet doesnt seem to have bothered her other wise. Does that make sense. Thanks again ladies have a great day. |

| Stormchaser, it doesn't make sense since Roxee is thriving otherwise. Keeping my fingers crossed that the new diet will clear up the problem completely! I would still take a stool sample in each time she is at the vet's. We always do just to make sure Toto hasn't picked up any parasites! Give Roxee a puppy kiss from Toto!

| Hello everyone, well i think maybe we've gotten Roxee on the mend. Looks like changing her diet is going to do the trick. Since we've changed her diet she's been almost normal minus a few exceptions. So we're keeping our fingers crossed that this is going to be a permanent fix. Thanks everyone for all the wonderful advice. |

| No we've not gotten her off the babyfood just the puppychow and that seems to have done the trick. although i know we have to work her off the babyfood i'm just glad to have found the problem and got her straightened out. I'm afraid that once we get her off the babyfood we're going to have a picky little dog on our hands. I expect to have problems with her wanting to eat just the Science Diet alone but we're going to try and slowly get her off the babyfood so we'll see how that goes. |

| When we got Higgins as a tiny baby, he was already chowing down on Purina Puppy Chow at 7.5 weeks!!! BUT we wanted to change to something healthier, and he wasn't so enthusiastic about that....so we used the new kibble like treats and handfed them so he thought they were GREAT! Gradually, we stopped handfeeding them so much and just made a big fuss when we put them in his bowl. Now he's a good ol' kibble eater. |

| Do you ever notice your baby eating different kibble if they have an opportunity?? When we visit Missy ... she eats a different kind [don't remember brand] and it's much larger than Toto's kibble ...but Toto will get a piece, throw it around for awhile, gnaw it until it's manageable for her and then eat it! Then she will get another piece and do it all over again! It's fun to watch!
