| Going in while spayed and neutered? Hi everyone! Well Emry and Elliot are 10 mnths now. Time has gone so fast. We have enjoyed them so much. Now it's time to get them spayed and neutered. A close friend of mine is our vet and is doing the procedure. She has invited me to come in the O.R. and be with my babies the whole procedure. They are also having baby teeth extracted at same time. Im thinking I will just because Im hoping it will be less stressful for them. Hating that they have to have it done! Just wondering if anyone else has done this? Included a pic, love these two so much! |

| I think it depends on you. Being with your babies while they are sedated may help them, but frankly they will not understand what is going on with them so they may find it calming for you to be there. The next important time for your babies is when they are coming out from under the sedation so you are there for them to see. Being present during the surgery is not productive for the dogs, but if it is important to you I would say "whatever". The dogs will not know you are there at that time. I personally hate it when they take my baby out of my sight when I have the yearly visit, so I can understand your feelings on this. Of course the surgeon is not going to let you get in the way or contaminate the field.

| My vet keeps telling me it will be very interesting and educational. Of course they will be sleeping. Point being they will never be outa my site and the last person they see and the first person as they wake up! That will help them I believe! |

| Only you know what you can handle. There is no reason for you to be there during the surgery unless you want to be. You can leave the OR after they are under and come back in when the vet closes. It is a matter of what you want. My opinion is that the first major veterinary surgery witnessed should not be on your own pets. I've been present for many surgeries and there is no way I could have stood it if the first one was on my dog. It took awhile for me to get used to the hacking sound when intubating, the severe reverse sneezing or fighting or screaming when waking up, the fact that they are tied down, the stats changing sometimes, the slim chance that extreme measures need to be taken, etc. So if you want an opinion mine is that if this is important to you then ask to watch another spay before deciding.

| I was allowed to sit with Milo when they put him under, and then they asked me to go in and sit with him again when it was time to wake him up.That was enough for me, I didnt want to see the actual procedure of him being neutured.I´ve seen it being done on TV and youtube and I was fine, it didnt phase me at all, but when it came to my yorkie, I couldent do it. |
