| Blue Buffalo? I talked with my breeder today and discovered she has the puppies on Blue Buffalo Life Protection dog food. Is this an ok kind of food? I'm planning on eventually switching to raw food diet but decided to keep her on whatever it was she was used to till I've had her for a month or two and she's all settled in than I slowly introduce her to to raw. Anyway should I continue with Blue Buffalo or is this dog food not ok? |

| For the time being, I would just leave them on the Blue Buffalo. It isn't a bad food and as long as they are eating and healthy. It will be fine until you can switch them on something you feel comfortable with!!

YT 2000 Club Member | dog My to Yorkies are on the Blue Buffalo Life Protection. They eat it and have good stools. I just don't like all the complaints I read on line about this food. It seems to work for my dogs. I wonder what everyone else out there feeds their dogs and if you suspect Blue Buffalo is not a good dog food. |

| Thanks for all your replies. I feel better knowing there are others who also use this. I think I'll switch to the puppy formula though. Last edited by mybaby2013; 09-03-2013 at 06:54 PM. |

| All 4 of mine eat Blue Buffalo Freedom grain free. You should still leave your baby on what the breeder is using for several weeks.until baby is settled in. New home, new family, new food could cause a tummy issue. Be sure to switch to new food slooooowly. |

| I feed Blue as well- Eva actually likes it.. which is hard to get her to like a dry dog food. She has perfect stools too & no itching or anything. Works for us !

| I am still feeding Hill's Science Diet for toy breeds as this was what Tara was eating when we got her. She is now 14mos. and seems to be doing okay. Anybody think she should be switched to something else and if so what? I am new to this site looks like I can learn all kinds of things. |

New puppy parents need to use extreme caution when switching their new pup's food...most breeders have this on their contract, to feed the same food for up to a year. You can switch when they are couple of months older, have gained a little weight & the food switch doesn't cause any digestive upset. Bc if it does, they stop eating & that causes low blood sugar, making them have a hypoglycemic attack. Bigger puppies, not so much, but Yorkie pups are so small, it's very common. There's one puppy that is very sick in the sick & injured forum bc of food change.

| IDK, I'm not familiar w/BB, but switching w/in the same brand should be safer than a whole different brand. Some are ALS, all life stages, not sure about BB. I wasn't trying to scare you, but it does happen & we read about it on YT too often. I think it has to do w/the fact that Yorkies are so small & sensitive digestive issues run in the breed. Stress alone will cause colitis & bloody poop, very alarming for the new parents! That's why reputable breeders keep the pup until 12 weeks or until they reach 2#'s.
