| ![]() Hi all: We have never had a dog before; recently we started taking care of our baby (11 year yorkie)..now, we just love her like anything and it turns out that she will just stay with us from now on...I never knew much about dog food let alone the specific requirements for an yorkie...now, we are just finding out how picky our baby is!!! And thankfully I landed in this yorkie forum and I have learnt quite a bit about yorkie food. We have tried several dry foods now and she just smells the dry food and doesn't eat it (the previous owners suggested some brand which i bought but she doesn't want to touch it at all). She absolutely loves wet food but unfortunately she just doesn't feel well if she eats even a little bit of it. Yesterday i mixed wellness no grain dry food with a little bit of wellness wet food. she gobbled it up like anything, but woke us up during the night around 5 times to go to the backyard..she just didn't feel good yesterday and for most of today....So, today we just gave her fruits (apple/pears) and some vegs (few broccolli/cauliflower pieces)..she is still not normal yet; but is feeling much better now...we thought of giving her a scrambled egg in the morning tomorrow and see how she feels.... There are my doubts: Can we give her a scrambled egg everyday? Is anyone doing it now... Also, did any of you have a similar experience like this before? If so, do you have any suggestions on the food. thanks very much for reading this. |

Hello & Welcome.. Has she been to the Vet yet to rule out a medical issue ? I know that my Yorkie cannot tolerate wet food either so it is just kibble for him but he is not a picky eater.. I know there are some members here that have little picky ones so hopefully they can give you some suggestions.. As for the scrambled eggs i think that is fine but not as the only source of food. It would not be a nutritious diet.. I would suggest finding a good quality kibble and stick with just that and if she enjoys the scrambled egg maybe mix a bit of that with her kibble each meal and see if that helps.. | |

Some dogs are very adverse to sudden diet changes and you have to go very slowly to get them to accept the new food. Any change in diets can also cause stomach upsets and diarrhea. Go easy on new foods and maybe try some boiled skinless chicken breast and rice until her tummy settles.

| ![]() We use RC Yorkie 28 and they love it. I trust the food and it's given good health and appearances here.

| ![]() Logan LOVES his Royal Canin. He always snarfs it down like he's starving. Every once in a while dogs get an upset tummy just like humans do. If Logan turns up his nose at a meal, I think nothing of it. If he does it 2 meals in a row... I cook him some really lean (95/5) ground beef and some brown rice... mix it together 1/2 and 1/2 and give him about a half a cup. It seems to re-set his system. |

| ![]() So...when she eats dry food, she doesn't have diahrrhea?? When she eats eggs, are her stools normal?? I am wondering if it's just from the switching of foods, period....not necessarily from canned food...although I do know some dogs don't tolerate canned food well...especially when they are used to dry food. Honeslty, though...there are lots of things that can cause digestive upset. Pancreatitis...gall bladder issues...IBS...that's why it's best to just let the vet help. I would keep her on the purina she has been on until she goes to the vet. If she can tolerate the eggs without having the runs, try mixing the eggs in the with the purina if she won't eat purina by itself. You can also try wetting the purina down with some warm water and turning it into mush. Perhaps she has bad teeth and it hurts to eat the dry food. At 11 y.o, if she hasn't had dentals, she could very well have bad teeth...an that's why she prefers soft food. If that's the case...wetting the food down to soften it would help her eat it. You could also try mixing a small amount of LOW SODIUM chicken broth in with her dry food...and if all the above fails you could try feeding her boiled chicken and rice to get her regulated...NO spices...No sodium, butter, oils...etc. If you keep switching her...it's just going to lead to more diarrhea. It needs to be a gradual process...but I would rule out any issues with the vet before trying to switch her. At her age, she may need to be on a special diet, so switching her now, and switching her again after the vets is just going to cause her unnecessary digestive upset. Congrats on your new baby!! I love to hear about seniors getting adopted!! I have a senior I adopted and I love him to death!! |

If you want to home feed I highly recommend you go to a vet nutritionist to learn how and what your dog needs in a daily diet. Or you can go to www.petdiet.com

| ![]() When I switched my puppy's diet from his breeder's, he ended up having diarrhea and a weak appetite for about a week and a half. Now, he just inhales his food. LOL!!! |
