That's because they want you to give up and then they can keep your money lol. When interceptor was around there rebates where so easy I loved it but then they went away forever . I think all rebates should have an online option and a mail in option.

I agree about the price of Trifexis and the hoops you have to jump through for rebates.

I used it when Sentinel wasn't available, but as soon as Sentinel came back on the market I switched back. They dropped the price on Sentinel (which has the same active ingredient for heartworm as Trifexis and Interceptor), but the component for flea control is Lufenuron. Trifexis uses spinosad for flea control and I'm leary of that stuff.

Using Drs Foster and Smith (just to compare prices), a 1 year supply of Sentinel for a 2-10 lb dog is $55. A 6 month supply of Trifexis for a 5-10 lb dog is $90 (so $180 for a year). That is a HUGE difference!

Sentinel has a rebate now, too, so the price is even better.

I agree. This is one of several reasons I am trying to find a new vet. The only real pluses that this vet has is their hours. They open at 7:30 am and close at 5:30 pm and are open 1/2 day on Saturday...and unless it is surgery, no appointments..it's always based on walk-in. Oh, and they are the only vets in my town. I live like 10 minutes from Montgomery and another mid sized city so that's not a reason to stay (them being the only ones here in town, I mean)

Yeah, reason I stuck with Trifexis over Sentinel is that flea thing. I don't give Mandie flea meds and I won't ever unless she gets fleas. I really believe that my larger dog being on the one that kills the fleas (not just sterilizes them) keeps my entire yard and house flea-free...therefore, Mandie flea free

Would he allow you to get it from a 3rd party real pharmacy like costco? I can sorta kinda understand discouraging online ordering, but see no reason (other than $$) to discourage getting it from a people pharmacy.

My vet told me he's supposed to discourage ordering pet medicine online, but he allows it anyway.
The revolution I bought would have been like $120 from him.


Another thing you can sometimes do is get medicine intended for bigger dogs and split the dose.
My poodle was on vetmedin (heart medicine), it comes in 1.25mg and 5mg, I asked my vet to give me the 5mg pills and I split them into 4. I think I saved $15 a month.
I've also heard of people doing this with flea drops if they have multiple dogs.

Warning: Be very careful when splitting pills to make sure they CAN BE split. Some meds are specifically formulated for the dosage that they are made out for i.e.: time release pills should not be split....you can call a pharmacist to inquire about any pill your thinking of splitting...to be safe I would check any you currently are.

Love Sentinel. Wouldn't touch Trifexis..and def not at those prices. wowzers!

I got my Revolution from the vet. He has a special deal with the company to give out extra free doses if you buy a certain amount. The Revolution dose I got is for a 5 to 10 pound dog.

I'm not sure that is legal, medical doctors can't force you to purchase medications from a particular vendor. You might try talking to the vet and taking an add from a 3rd party vendor showing the price difference. I'd never use a vet who wouldn't be open to suggestions that would not compromise my dog's health but would save me $$.

Also, from what I understand you MUST give Trifexis non a full stomach. If your dog throws up the meds within one hour, the vet is supposed to replace it free of charge. After an hour, it won't compromise his/her protection.

You all have me second guessing the paperwork I read from the vet. I'm going to call and make sure, but they are closed for lunch right now. I will update later. The way *I* read the paperwork from their office was that they wouldn't okay meds from another party because they could not guarantee they are safe and "real".

I'm going to check into this further. Bottom line is...I need a new vet lol

Even if they won't sign off for an internet vendor, I'm pretty sure they have to write you a script if requested.
