| Worried sick! Dental cleaning in the morning! My little one has to have her teeth cleaned in the morning. Needless to say (as most everyone always says when anesthesia is involved) I am worried sick! We had her extensive blood panel, EKG and regular check-up two weeks ago when we made the appointment - her heart, organs, and everything on her blood work looked great. She is five years old (she is a rescue) and we've only had her about three weeks. But her poor little mouth is in terrible shape. Her little teeth look terrible and I know she needs this procedure done. I am just scared to death. I recently lost my precious Yorkie, October, in an accident in April - something I never thought I'd have to face so unexpectedly and so suddenly - so that has made my nerves about our other Yorkie even worse. I know so many of you have been in my position with dental cleanings, spays and neuters, amongst other surgeries...so any suggestions on how to easy my anxiety (or what helped with your worry) is more than appreciated. Of course we pray for her daily, that God look after her and we know that He will -- but I am still just so nervous. Thank you all so much! |

| If you want to read an engaging story about a nervous mommy taking her baby for a dental, I recommend this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...melt-down.html Teresa is a great storyteller! (And you are not alone!)

| Your little one is so lucky to have you. You had her thoroughly checked out, and its so obvious how loved she is. I wish I could ease your fears. My little ones had yearly dentals, and I understand your worries. Our angel, Ashley, needed a dental due to an infection at 16 years old, and even with an enlarged heart, she did great. I loved Teresa's story also. I definitely can relate to it, and she is such a wonderful storyteller and kindhearted soul. . I'm so sorry for your tragic loss.

| I know how you feel!! Destiny went in for her dental last week. She is 7 and I was a complete wreck. I felt like the worst person in the world for leaving her there especially when she gave me the "why are you leaving me" look. I tried to keep my mind busy but I just kept waiting for the vet to call and praying everything went well. Destiny did great but she was a little mad at me for leaving her there in the first place. I'm not sure anything really eases our anxiety, not until we get the call that surgery is done and they are doing great. But it does help a little knowing you've covered all your bases such as blood work and anesthesia protocol. And most dentals are very quick so they are under for only a short period of time.

Thank you so much for your condolences. It has been the hardest thing, by far, I have ever experienced. I held her constantly, so when we lost her in such a terrible way (the only time I happened not to be holding her) it was a tragic awful time. And it still is - it is so hard. But thank you for your kind words. I really enjoyed Teresa's story, I will probably read and re-read it tomorrow while I await the phone call that our little one is ok.

I want to say thank you for your kind post. I'm glad to know that her pre-dental work is done and looks good and that (like you said) dentals are done pretty quick. I just can't wait until this time tomorrow night!

I just had that conversation (about the fluids) with my husband a few days ago. I know that in the past, when our Chihuahuas had dentals, they would give them fluids - I remember seeing it on the bill too in the breakdown of cost. But I didn't see that on Oli's estimate this time, so I had planned on asking the vet about it this morning when I take her in. Getting ready to leave in just a few minutes. Thank you for reminding me of that. My oh my...so nervous. I guess it goes along with being a furbaby owner and lover. I will keep you posted once I get the call that she is finished.

| Thank the Lord she is ok! Hi everyone! Just wanted to give you an update on our little Oli, she did very well with her dental today. Since she is a little rescue, her poor teeth were just terrible and the dental took a little over two hours. She had to have all of her small front teeth on top and bottom removed. She also had to have her two canines removed on top - as well as one tooth in the back. The vet is trying to save the two lower canines - she said we'd need to re-check them in about 6 months. She injected some sort of filler (not sure the name without looking on my paperwork) to try to save them. She is tired and I know she is sore, but she is ok and I am so thankful. Thank you all for your encouraging words and your thoughts and prayers. I am so blessed and thank God for answering my prayer to keep her safe. Now just to get her all healed up |
