| Dog ear hair Just wondering if anyone has heard of this. When we went a week ago to pick up our little guy from being neutered they told us everything they did ie trim nails and such and they said they plucked the hairs in his ears and said we need to do that because the hair can prevent air flow and lead to ear infections. Has anyone else heard of this? This is our first puppy but I know lots who have dogs and never heard of doing this. He is a morkie and they said its the Yorkie in him as to why you have to. Thanks so much |

| yes it is very true. i pluck cedrics ear hair as he has very hairy ears. i cannot get all if it as im still a bit afraid but it doesnt hurt him and i get most of it out. i need to get powder for the ears as they say it makes them easier to pluck.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, I'd say the majority of people pluck yorkie's ear hairs. We don't pluck our kiddos' ears and they've always been fine. Their ears are au natural...risque, I know, but we do like to live on the edge.

| Based on what I have read here relative to YT members' experience, some dogs do better when the hair is plucked and some do better when it is left alone. If your pup has thick ear hair, I would remove some or all. My guys don't have much, so I don't pluck. I do comb daily with a flea comb to remove loose hair and any wax. We also use an ear cleaner with a drying agent after baths, but sometimes I forget.

YT 2000 Club Member | I don't do my pups ears but have seen a groomer do it to Teeka's ears once. It was when she had a yeast infection and said it would help. Teeka cried....I don't know if it was from the plucking of her holding her chin hair!!! She just used her fingers to "pluck" some hair. She really doesn't have much, so I just leave it!

| I think most pups resist it, but they grow accustomed to it. Use your fingers as suggested above, pull fast. Try using a flea comb with teeth set closely together to clean and separate the hair.

| The vet says you just pluck them using your fingers. She said it like plucking your eyebrows that it can hurt at first some but over time you don't feel it anymore. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I have a poodle and two yorkies. I always pluck their ear hair at the same time I groom them. I started this when I first got each of them and they became accustomed to it very soon. Now each of them just lay down while I am plucking their ears and it doesn't bother them at all. My vet showed me how to do this.

| Hopefully I will catch on soon how to do it properly. They never showed us how and when they told us they had already done it so I hope I don't pluck where I maybe shouldn't. |

| I only pluck Libby's ears, as Maddie and Faith don't have much ear hair. I use a hemostat...got that idea from a groomer. Just clamp it down on the hair and quickly pull. They say it doesn't hurt and I tend to believe that since Libby has never cried when I do it.

| Some dog breeds don't have it Yorkies do and my vet has told me to keep her ear hair plucked so I do.
