| I've had this exact same problem. I joined another forum not long ago and asked there what to do and most people said to feed 2 meals per day. You choose the food and stick to it. Pick up the food after 15 minutes if your dog won't eat it. Then feed it again at night and pick it up after 15 minutes if she doesn't eat again. Do that for as long as you feel is necessary to get the point across that she wont get anything else. No treats, nothing but her food that you choose. The other few people mentioned that they free feed but do keep track of how much food is being eaten. What I did, which is not great but it helped me find which food Bentley would eat. I went to a better pet food store (Pet People) instead of petsmart, petco, etc and got 8 samples of grain-free food since I want to feed grain-free. Bentley immediately chose Orijen 6 Fish dry food out of all of them. So that is what I am feeding. It's been about a week and I am typically leaving food down all day though I pick it up at night and put it back down a few hours after he wakes up for the day. My dog is 8 pounds (could stand to lose some weight) and I'm feeding 1/4 cup or more per day depending on his appetite. But I wouldn't feed more than 1/2 cup a day. The only way I've gotten Bentley to somewhat consistently eat his food is to make a gravy out of Nupro dog food supplement and mix that in really well with his kibble (by hand, eww!) and feed that. He likes it and won't usually touch (yet) the kibble without it. Bentley has always been a picky eater even right after we brought him home at 8.5 weeks old. We've tried numerous dog foods (canned and dry) over the 5 years we've had him. This is the only one that he showed interest in. So that is what I've done. I do have to encourage him to eat by acting like Im eating his food, that doesn't always work though. I think he sees through it. LOL Good luck!

| My vet actually first recommended it but I was hesitant to try it since my dog vomits in the morning if he doesn't eat anything the afternoon before. But I've tried it, it works but only when you stick to it 100%. I just don't have the heart to do that yet but it seems I'm going to have to do it while my parents are gone on vacation this coming week. Hopefully he'll get the idea that he is supposed to eat what I put down. It's my parents who prefer to let him lick bowls, giving him many treats per day, etc... So I've got 8 days to work on it on my own starting tomorrow. So that is what I will do and I hope it works like It has briefly in the past when I started doing it but gave up due to my parents insistence of him licking their bowls. :P

Most dogs are motivated by scent so the idea of getting samples of various foods is a good one. If a pup smells something that actually smells appetizing to it then it will be more motivated to eat. Some pet suppliers sell toppers you can sprinkle on the food to help get the dog to eat. I would check the ingredient list carefully though. | |

Dr. Ernie Ward wrote an article for FETCH magazine which is a quarterly magazine for subscribers to PETPLAN insurance. He is a vet nutritionist and recommends feeding your dog the following foods weekly: 1. Fish – especially salmon, tuna, sardines and anchovies. 2. Yogurt- plain preferably organic and especially whenever your dog is taking antibiotics. 3. Chickpeas also called garbanzo beans are good for the heart, blood sugar and digestion. 4. Eggs – the BEST protein for your dog. 5. Quinoa – is loaded with protein and contains all 10 essential amino acids a dog needs. 6. Sweet potatoes – steamed or baked helps stabilize blood sugar and high in a number of vitamins and minerals. 7. Baby carrots cooked lightly if your dog won’t eat them raw. 8. Broccoli – high in sulfer compounds that help the liver and eyes. 9. Celery – has coumarin and flavonoids which supports the immune system and are currently being studied for their anti-cancer properties. 10. Apples and bananas – lots of antioxidants and vitamins.

| I have a horribly picky eater, I know exactly what you are going through. I have found that Rudy will eat Stella and Chewies freeze dried Raw (eats the venison and lamb) really well and sometimes the beef. I mix it with unpastuerized goats milk and he will gobble it up 2 to 3 x's daily. 1 whole patty each time. Ideally I would love for him to be around 4lbs. But he is a little under 3 1/2. Pounds and very healthy just wished he had a little more meat on his bones. P.s. on days he doesn't want to eat Stella and Chewies I will offer him more milk or Primal Freeze dried RAW nuggets as back up and he will eat it. He prefers to eat it dry just offer him lots of water through out the day. Hope this helps
