![]() Hello everyone...I joined several weeks ago while "shopping" for my new Yorkie...I lost my 11 year old Lexie just before Christmas and though I knew I could never replace her, wanted to share my heart and home with another Yorkie. We have had her about a week, and of course did the initial vet check upon bringing her home...sent out a fecal at the same time. It was picked up on the test that she had giarrdia..panacur was prescribed. I just gave her the first of the 5 day doses this morning..along with some cottage cheese to hopefully curb any nausea that may result. So far she has kept all down, but is having intermittent watery diarrhea. I am on close watch and bathe and clean her area immediately when this happens. I have a floor steam cleaner to clean the tile in her area...also washing with a bleach solution . She is 8 months old and weighs 3.2 lbs. She has little interest in food..but will take bits of chicken/rice, but only if there is cottage cheese added. I have also fed her bits of pumpkin from my finger. I am syringing H20 every couple of hours..a teaspoon at a time. Question is...has anyone dealt with diarrhea during the panacur treatment and any suggestions as to keeping her hydrated and fed without aggravating her diarrhea? Thanks for any and all suggestions....she is just the sweetest little girl, I am heartsick about this. Didn't expect to be dealing with a sick baby....and want to do all I can to make her comfortable. Susan

![]() I am very sorry about your loss of Lexi. I wish you much health, love, laughter, and happiness with your new little girl. I hope she gets better very soon. I don't have any experience with giardia or Panacur, but I'm hoping others see this and can help you more.

![]() Did your vet give you any Albon for the diarrhea? They usually like to stop the diarrhea so she doesnt get dehydrated.....you can syringe Pedialyte to her, instead of just plain water....that will also help with stabilizing electrolytes....

![]() Thanks to all of you that took the time to kindly reply to my dilemma with my new little girl Piper. It is the second day of treatment with the panacur. She is having watery squirts of diarrhea..nothing major. I am syringing Pediolite...slippery elm to soothe her stomach and intestines...as well as syringing baby food chicken, baby food rice cereal , mixed with pediolite, as recommended by the breeder today. She will eat boiled chicken out of my hand...she's doing well, but the little "squirts" continue! The breeder has confidence that the Panacur will take care of the giarrdia and when we are finished treatment we will be home free! Praise God!!! Thanks again to all who took time....this is my fourth Yorkie...There was Bitsy Boy, Noah, Lexie and now Piper! All are gone except Piper...She is a gift from God! God Bless you all and God Bless all our little gifts from God.. Susan

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Cooked brown rice with boiled chicken is very bland and what I always give when anyone has an upset tummy. You can add a bit of chicken broth as well to keep her hydrated ![]() |

![]() Piper had her third of the 5 doses of Panacur this morning.....she had a very rough night, but it seems to have turned around. My husband and I were up every 2 or 3 hours syringing 1Tab of Babyfood Chicken (stage 2) mixed with 1Tab of Baby Rice Cereal made liquidy with 1Tab Pediolite. I would recommend this mixture for anyone dealing with a sick baby that won't eat. Syringing was absolutely necessary as she would not eat on her own. Syringing H20 mixed with a little Karo every once in a while kept her hydrated. Before the syringing, she was very listless..obviously on her way to hypoglycemia. Scary. We are also syringing 1/2 teas. of a slurry made with Slippery Elm powder to soothe and coat stomach and intestines a half hour before her Babyfood meal. She is now eating off the tip of my finger rather than having to be syringed. The diarrhea has turned from just water to a very loose pudding like consistency .and just twice today. God has answered prayer! Thanks to everyone for their support and interest ![]()
