| is it ok to store moistened kibble in frig... for the next days feeding? Emy has had a sour stomach, was throwing up last weekend a couple times, so I cut out all veggies I was giving her, and started moistening her kibble, cause it swells up alot I noticed when she threw up...it takes forever for the kibble to soften up it seems, so I put her daily ration into a container and put water in it overnight, so this morning it would be soft for her....she loves it moistened, yesterday I gave it to her moistened for her meals, and she didn't throw up at all. So far today I've given her breakfast, moistened, and just gave her lunch, moistened, and no throw ups....so I was thinking and somebody suggested on here that she might have been eating her kibble too fast and swallowing it whole and to try moistening it. Does it affect the kibble nutritionwise to moisten it with water? Is it ok to store the next days ration the day before in fridge to make sure it gets soft enough? I also think the veggies I was giving her were making her stomach gassy and bloated, so I stopped everything but her kibble yesterday and today and so far she's absolutely normal in every way.... |

i dont think it would hurt to keep it in the fridge overnight.. i am really glad this is working for her.. i doubt it is changing the nutritional value of the kibble as you are just adding water... | |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Moistening food won't change the nutritional value, but you're right, you will need to store it in the refrigerator if you moisten it. Keeping a day’s supply in the refrigerator won't hurt either. I don't think this will help her keep her food down, I think it may be just a coincidence. I really think that dogs should use their teeth to chew kibble; I think its great exercise for the teeth and gums. Also, dry food doesn't stick to teeth like wet food does. If the kibble is too big for her to chew, you might want to consider smaller kibble, or breaking the kibble with a mallet before you give it to her. I see no harm in doing this temporary, but long term, I believe she needs to use those teeth. As they say, use it or lose it!

| I serve a couple of my seniors moistened kibble. I see nothing wrong with storing a days supply overnight in the fridge....but I like to just put her serving in her bowl, putting warm water over it, stiring it up to make a little gravy, and I let it sit for a minute or two...that softens the kibble enough for them to chew easily, it is easily digested, and it isnt quite as mushy-soft as when it sits wet overnight....I have served it both ways, and mine seem to like the individual serving made up fresh at mealtime. |
