| Balanced homecooked meal My 4.5 months puppy is at 8lbs and still growing. I wanted to feed him a balanced amount of raw, kibble and homecooked meal, but he doesn't like his Wellness puppy (tolerate kibble, dislike canned) much and the few times I fed him raw pork ribs and chicken wing, I had near heart attacks because he choked on them Now I mostly cook for him: boiled chicken, a bit of rice with green beans, carrots, parsley. I change it up to fried egg, pork, beef and ground meat because he gets bored eating chicken. I also freeze chicken broth for him to chew on. He has small amount of fruits (apple, strawberry, banana) and loves cottage cheese. He gets chicken stick and Wellness treats. My questions are: 1. Do any of you guys feed a variety of homecooked meal and kibble? What can I do/add to his meals to make sure he has all the nutrition he needs, without overdoing it? 2. Recommendation on high quality, grain-free dry / wet puppy food, with not too high protein %? 3. What type of raw meaty bones do you give your puppies? |

| I don't give Mandie a lot of meals other than her kibble so I'm not really any help. I just wanted to bump this up for you so others could help

| I home cook using the recipes from Dr. Pitcairn's and Rick Woodford's books. However, I do not use use Woodford's supplement recipe; I use the healthy powder from Pitcarin's book. I also include The Honest Kitchen and free feed Fromm grain free. None of my 4 dogs eat much of the Fromm kibble though . They all love the kibble recipe in Woodford's book (requires refrigeration). I am waiting on an order of Canine Caviar and will see if they like that better. I feed twice a day, 6am and 5pm. They are free to eat the Fromm all day. If I'm working from home, I'll give them a little of the homemade kibble at noon which they stand in line for as soon as they hear the Rubbermaid container open. Around 9/9:30pm, my Zoë and my daughter's Chester will get a teeny bit of yogurt and boiled shredded chicken. For whatever reason this has helped them not cough/hack during the night. This is working for me, but each dog is different. Only your vet can tell you by assessing your baby and reviewing blood work and lab results. |

| I home cook and leave kibble down for snacks. My recipe came from Dr Remillard at Petdiets.com. I recommend getting a recipe from a qualified professional. I add Balanceit to the girls food for their supplements. My girls have Science Diet as their kibble. Many don't like SD but it is what works for us. As one of my girls have a very sensitive tummy. I have fed Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild in the past. I do not give my girls bones if any kind. I would use a chew such as a bulky stick instead.
