I home cook using the recipes from Dr. Pitcairn's and Rick Woodford's books. However, I do not use use Woodford's supplement recipe; I use the healthy powder from Pitcarin's book.
I also include The Honest Kitchen and free feed Fromm grain free. None of my 4 dogs eat much of the Fromm kibble though

. They all love the kibble recipe in Woodford's book (requires refrigeration). I am waiting on an order of Canine Caviar and will see if they like that better.
I feed twice a day, 6am and 5pm. They are free to eat the Fromm all day. If I'm working from home, I'll give them a little of the homemade kibble at noon which they stand in line for as soon as they hear the Rubbermaid container open.
Around 9/9:30pm, my Zoë and my daughter's Chester will get a teeny bit of yogurt and boiled shredded chicken. For whatever reason this has helped them not cough/hack during the night.
This is working for me, but each dog is different. Only your vet can tell you by assessing your baby and reviewing blood work and lab results.
