| Fear of food bowl I am hopping that someone may have some insight on what I have found to be a unique issued. I have a 3month old yorkie (Ginger). She is my first yorkie and cute as can be. However in the last 2days she has developed a fear of her food bowl. As silly as it sounds she really is deathly afraid of it. Nothing has happended to her (to my knowledge) to creat this fear but she wont go near it. I have discovered that is not just her food bowl it is any bowl or plate. even lids. She will eat out of our hands or if we put some kibble on the floor. But as for water and food from her dish she acts like you are going to kill her. She seriously goes into a panick attack. She throws herself back starts to yelp and basicly scream. I have tried feeding her in bed with the bowl that didn't work. I tried playing with her toys next to the bowl that didnt work. I even tried the Hanzel and gretal approach trail of kibble to the bowl. I acted like I was eating and drinking from the bowl and she just looked at me but kept away. Can someone please help us? What could have caused this sudden phobia and what can I do to help my little one? I have a vet appointment on Sat...but I really need some help now. Thanks, ginger's parents. |

| OH I know allllllll about that!! Both my elder yorkies went through this stage every now and then at different times in their lives!! I had to keep trying different things until I found a container they would tolerate. Jasper had a plastic bowl he liked, and Angel would not eat out of anything but a flat saucer. They are little nervous nellies, I swear. I think part of the problem was their dog tags and the sound it would make hitting the food container, but you probably don't have that problem. I am guessing your issue may be food related. If you found something your baby would eat with joy, it would not matter what you were feeding in, they would scarf it down, lol! There are many food threads on here, I would recommend a search, and see what you would like to try. Just my humble opinion! GOOD LUCK! At 3 months they cannot go long without eating!

| I have had the same situation so for my little girl I feed her out of a saucer or a flat plate and then she is fine. Because I have so many dogs I have a big water dispenser so she doesn't get frightened of the water just the food bowl. Good Luck in trying out different things that will work for your little one.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | WOW...I came across this thread accidently but am I glad to have found it ! My 8 yr old Yorkie is terrified of anything in a metal food dish. She will only eat off a saucer. She will not drink water out of the water feeder I have and I must give her a separate dish of water in a little pyrex type dish. Oh, and it cannot be placed on the floor in front of the dishwasher as she sees her reflection in the black glass front....sigh And all the while I am thinking she has lost her mind totally...so glad to see she is not alone...lololol

| I went through this with Sophie. My vet wanted us to change her plastic bowls to stainless steel. Sophie was terrified of the new bowls. We just hand fed her some each meal and then set the bowl down. She would be hungry so she would lean forward and quickly grab a piece of food until she eventually realized it wan't going to hurt her. I had never had a dog afraid of it's bowl before. Usually you can put the food any where and they will eat it. Not these silly babies. |
