| At what age would you suggest my yorkie be neutered? My yorkie is 16-week old today. He is 2 lbs 13 oz. At what age would you recommend to have him neutered? |

| I have 3 and I waited til they were about 9 months old before they got their surgeries. I think I was concerned with them being so small and being under anesthesia.

| For neuter I really think its better to wait 8-10 months instead of 6 like is normally done. It helps with allowing your pup to develop completely (growth plates close), gives him a chance to try to lose those baby teeth on his own. if not, they could be pulled at the same time as the neuter. If there is any concern about your male marking, I can assure you it's a non issue. If you can potty train, you can train them not to mark indoors. Spay on the other hand... I have no idea. To me who's never had a female dog, it sounds like a timing act.

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Mine have always been done at six months. As far as marking, I don't think it is easy at all to break a dog of that once they start, particularly if he is an Alpha dog. I had a neutered Chihuahua that marked despite being done at 6 months, not all the time but often enough. Never could break him of it in 10 years time. Your dog is small though so you may have to wait longer. What does your vet say? Louise |

| Your vet is going to be the best to answer this for you. There are factors to consider and your vet should be able to advise. I would say he needs to be at least 6 months old.

| I had Raley neutered at 7 months of age. He was not lifting his leg to pee at that age so I am glad I had him done when I did. I would not have waited any longer. I personally wanted to do it at 6 months but our vet was on maternity leave! Raley will be 3 years old in December and still squats to pee and does not mark!!!! Good luck!
