As far as marking, I don't think it is easy at all to break a dog of that once they start, particularly if he is an Alpha dog. I had a neutered Chihuahua that marked despite being done at 6 months, not all the time but often enough. Never could break him of it in 10 years time.

Your dog is small though so you may have to wait longer. What does your vet say?

Kaji had been marking at the breeders house since before he came home. All they did is slap on a belly band, which helped create a really bad habit. So when Kaji came home, all he did was mark all day, and try to dominate the other dog in the apt. In fact, the first 15 mins he was home he managed to mark the couch, the vacuum cleaner, the other dog's bed, the wall over by the food bowls, and the bathroom. He was NAUGHTY! I'm happy to say both habits were broken. it's been a non-issue. I'm sure like with people, some dogs are more stubborn than others making them harder to retrain.

Edited to add: Kaji was neutered a few days after his first birthday.
