The Singles line might be good for your doggie since the duck/pear and lamb/apple formulas have a single protein source and single grain source (if your dog does not have bad reactions to duck/lamb or oats). These formulas are supposed to be good for sensitives tummies.

That's a good point about this food.

Poor Tibbe, I wish I could help and say for sure this food would work for his little tummy. It's still a really new food to me and I'm just waiting and watching to see how my little ones do on it.

Thank you. Vet said today let's keep him a while on the Hill's I/D to see if his tummy won't settle down & then we can talk about gradually changing. But this sounds like a good choice to think about for him for the future. Sounds like it has a lot of variety of tastes. He'd like that.

I ordered that afternoon and was there the next day at lunchtime. They shipped from PA and I live in DE, so regular shipping, which was free, got it there the next day.

I just posted on Acana and now seeing this long posts on the food. I recently switched him to Acana, but tonight had to take him to the Vet since his stool was bloody. I've switched him before and never ever had him to have bloody stools. Can Acana cause this issue~? It's been a dark reddish-brown, but late afternoon it was red. The Vet has my Yorkie on antibotics and on W/D from Science Diet for a short time.

That is scary. How is he doing now - resting okay? I sure hope it is a nothing bad & maybe just the food change & he clears up right away. I haven't yet seen your other post - did you slowly mix the new with the old food over several days? What did the vet think was wrong?

He's not really wanting to play, so something is up. But he did hump his alligator toy and won't let me near it. I've changed his food numerous of times thru his years from time to time, but never had this to occur. He really licked up this wet food the Doc gave him. Doc doesn't know if it is the new food or not, so when I begin it back on Saturday and if this happens again it most likely is the food. My other post is titled "Acana dog food". Oh, yes I always slowly mix the old with the new food. I have a good amount left of the old so I really haven't totally switched him. He's only been on Acana for like 2 weeks, maybe 12-14 kibbles with his old food.

Golly, if that few pieces did it, then he's really not able to tolerate that food this time around! I sure hope it is just the food as that has already been stopped & hopefully will clear him up along with his meds. Has he had any more diarrhea or regular stools since the vet visit? (last question - don't mean to hijack this thread)

Don't worry about that - I was about to ask the same question.

Veggienut, was his stool bright red or dark red?

I don't know much about bloody stools but I suppose a food could cause it. Which Acana food did you get for him?

I have never had a problem with the Acana and I switched Riley cold turkey.

From what I picked up when we were walking it was a mix of red and brown. Then he had some sticking out of his tail and when I pulled it out, it was bright red and looked like a string of blood. I worried then~! I got him the chicken, think it is the Prairie one. He started back today on it with the what the Vet gave me (W/D Science Diet), and I mixed in some of the kibbles. About to walk here shortly and hopefully there is no blood. Otherwise, got to switch again~!

How is your pumpkin doing??
A food could possibly cause bloody stools if there is an allergy or intolerance but I think that it is usually accompanied by vomiting and/or diarrhea, as well.
