| skin and hip issues We have a 1 1/2 year old yorkie and just rescued a 9 year old yorkie last week. The 9 year old is a sweetheart but whoever had him before didn't take very good care of him. The poor thing hasn't been on a very healthy diet, didn't get exercised very much, and has a problem with "hot spots"-licks his tummy and paws when he is laying down, his hair is very thin all over. We have taken him to the vet and had him tested for worms and mange-all clear. He is on vitamins and the fish oil for his diet, and antibiotic. He also has issues with his back legs-I don't even want to think of what may have happened, but is there anything we can do to help him with this? If anyone has recommendations I would appreciate it. Marley (1 1/2 ) was a rescue but he was in good shape. Poor Bobby has obvious health issues, so anything you can advise for joints, skin, fur, etc, would be helpful. |

| What do you mean by issues with his back legs? The vet should have been able to explain what the problems are. Did he not know? It was wonderful of you to rescue the other yorkie. What a great big heart you must have!

| Our vet saw Bobby when he was still charged up from getting the car ride home. We took him directly to the Vet after rescuing because he had a slight cough and needed a bath desperately. He felt that Bobby was in good shape for a 9 year old. However, at home, Bobby is hesitant to go up hardwood steps and sometimes "favors" his back right leg. We've only had him 5 days and I'm seeing a big improvement in his health and stamina- but if there is advice to share I'd love to hear it. |

| When Zsa Zsa had problems with her back legs due to old age , my vet prescribed Glucosamine . It helped her very much . It took just 1 month to see the good result , she lived until 14 years old without having too much difficulty to walk . Licking himself is probably due to anxiety . On her last days , litlle Zsa Zsa was doing the same but I can't really tell on the case of your little one . At this age , he needs to be reassured just like if he was a puppy. | Thank you! I will ask about glucosamine! We are giving Bobby lots of attention-I think he just needs time to realize he will be loved. |
