New generic flea and tick protection at Costco

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the new generic (Kirkland) flea and tick protection that Costco has for sale. Of course it is less than half the price of Frontline Plus but I'm wondering if it is any good. I had heard that the main active ingredient in Frontline is now off of patent so new generics are popping up. I mostly like the quality of things at Costco, but I am leery of this only because Costco still sells those chicken jerky strips made in China.

I was just coming to ask the same thing! I noticed that Kirkland and Frontline have different active ingredients
Kirkland: Etofenprox 30%, Methoprene 3.6%, and Piperonyl Butoxide Technical 5%
Frontline: Fipronil 9.8%, Methoprene 8.8%

I'm like the OP - I'm usually really happy with Kirkland quality (as good or better than the name brand) but the Chicken Jerky treats made me a little worried.

When my frontline runs out I going with the generics... No way am I paying that much.

Wal mart has a generic, Two kinds Will compare the two.

I myself persoannly would never use a generic Flea product on my girl's. I am happy with what I use. I have heard too many stories about reactions.

The Kirkland product sounds like it’s the generic equivalent to Bio Spot Defense Spot. A generic product should contain the same active ingredients. Here's Bio Spot Defense's ingredients.

Good to know! The Amazon reviews are not great.

I read the fine print last night and FYI for anyone who has a little one, the Kirkland product is not for under 6 months or under 5 lbs. My guy is only 3lbs so I went with the Frontline. Costco still has a decent price on that one... $36.

I bought it but I am taking it back. After research I saw bad reviews and the compairsong to bio spot.

I recently switched to this product from frontline plus. I can say that it did not work for my dog. However, there was an extenuating circumstance. My roommate stopped giving her dog flea medicine unannounced to me so my dog was probably at a much higher risk rate for flea infestations. Anyhow, she got a flea infestation and I switched her back to the front line and the fleas are gone now (less than 24 hours later). This is my second month on the costco brand. Something to consider for people thinking of switching...The costco brand does not kill eggs or larvae (it may claim to but research and reviews show that the active ingredients are highly effective in killing adult fleas but not as high at killing eggs and larvae). Frontline plus does kill the eggs and larvae. If you live in a lower risk area, the costco brand might be a good preventative product. But the important thing is that once your dog has fleas on it, SWITCH back to frontline or advantix or some other brand with an excellent reputation. Fleas are not going to kill your dog and with the money you save with this product it may be worth a shot for some people, but just keep in mind that you may have to buy the 'good stuff' anyways. Overall, I would not recommend to a friend because the trouble and time I wasted learning all this information that I have posted here was not worth my while to save 50 bucks on flea medicine. My loss is your gain.

I used it on my dog for last 2 months. About a week ago noticed a couple fleas on her. Now, she has lots of them. So it does not work on her. I will take to groomer tomorrow to get flea dip. Then use Capstar tabs a couple of weeks until the Kirklands wears off some then will try Vectra 3D that my vet recommends. It sure caused lots of problems with having fleas of my little angel, having to take it back to Costco to get refund, needing to pay for a grooming with flea dip, buying stuff to spray my house so the fleas will be gone, and a trip to vet to get new treatment!!!! Wow, and I trusted Costco.

I personally would never use a generic haven't even thought about it I also wont use any of the newly released stuff until I know how its effecting dogs and such. Also please be aware if you are looking at hartz brand there stuff has killed dogs. There are poisons in flea and tick treatments and it is never something to take lightly or play with.
