| Milk Thistle Hello all Yorkie parents! I am sadden to have found out my Cookie was diagnosed to have a smaller liver and that her liver function is abnormal. To clarify she does not have liver shunt but this has caused her to have seizures. It has created toxin build up and I've been searching online to see what can help with detoxification. I came a cross something called Milk Thistle. Has anyone heard and have experience with this? She will be seeing a Neurologist tomorrow. Thank You! Love Cookie's mum |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Sorry to hear that your pup has liver problems... Denamarin has Sam-e and milk thistle in it. Your vet should carry it or you can order it online. Lactulose will also help to detox (from your vet) Best of luck at the neuro...

| So sorry to hear about your baby. Its so hard when they are sick or something is wrong that you can't fix. I have heard of Milk Thrisle and have been looking into using some other herbs to try to help our little Kayla. She has CT and this was one of the herbs listed that would help. (so they say) Wish I could be of more help. Haven't tried it yet but praying your baby gets better. If you see your vet is not helping for some reason, go to another one. Someone is bound to know what will help him. |

| I supplement my dogs with milk thistle just to assist their livers detox their bodies from all they are exposed to on a daily basis....heartworm meds, flea and tick meds, anything else they may be getting that today is perfectly fine for them, but in 3 years, they discover is killing our babies.....They have given milk thistel in Germany to humans in liver failure for years, with great success....I dont know how old Cookie is...if she is full grown, then I would think they can manage her disease with diet and medication....if she were a puppy with an underdeveloped liver that ALREADY was not able to manage her system requirements, I would not be hopeful...but if she is full grown, and her liver has managed to keep her system detoxed until now, it seems to me diet and meds would be able to effectively assist her and relieve her symptoms. | I know that milk thistle is recommended for alcoholics or people with hepatitis, or any other liver problem, for humans, so I don't see why it wouldn't be the same in a dog. |

| Saw the neurologist today. Her neurological exam was great. We're going to do an ultrasound around the liver. Something to do with a vessel being out side the liver to r/o shunt. If shunt is r/o. Then a biopsy and MRI is next. |
