My 12 year old tea cup yorkie needs a few teeth pulled and cleaned, I know the lady that had him before me had teeth pulled before but im really scared to put him under to get the work done. His blood work came in fine but I have never had to put a pet under and like I said im super scared. I could really use some advice Thanks |

| I think you have to weigh the risks and pain of the little guy continuing to live with rotten teeth and all the complications that can cause vs. the risk of anesthesia in an older, tiny dog. Usually, your vet is the best one to advise but you might get a second opinion as to the advisability. My Jilly had shoulder surgery when she was 12 1/2 and weighed 3 lbs. and she came through the anesthesia just fine.

| Dental problems are serious and can cause a host of secondary problems.Poor dental care can lead to other medical problems including, but not limited to kidney disease and cardiac disease. I can't tell you what to do I am not a vet but I would get the teeth fixed. |

| After hearing about other older dogs going under for work and talking with my vet again, I have decided to get it done! The vet says he will be just fine and that not doing it could cause more problems. Thanks for the advice and he soon will have his teeth all clean and fixed <3 |

| Glad those teeth are getting taken care of. Probably feel lots better once they are pulled and the others cleaned. You will be scared but try to remember the surgery protocols today for small dogs are extremely safe compared to years back. So many little Yorkies have this done daily, it must be very safe. Let us know how it goes, won't you? We'll be pulling and praying for that baby.

| On the day of surgery, if you can, try to stay super, super busy and plan something fun - a movie or something, if you can. You can't help your baby one bit home sitting by the phone scared silly so get your cell and get out and about. You'll worry a bit less that way and before long you will get the call that it is all done and she is waking up and the time you can pick her up. And then post for us so we can know she's fine. She'll be whiney and needy that night due to the effects of the anesthesia still kind of affecting her a bit if she's anything like Jilly and Tibbe but by the next day, she should be her old self but still with tender gums so plan soft feeding accordingly for a few days.

| I am so glad that you opted to go for the dental work. I know its SO scarey to have your little one put under but I think you have made the best choice. Good for you and please give us an update on how he is doing after the dental surgery.
