| Joel wont eat in the morning I dont know why he wont eat in the morning and if I let him he will sleep until 1:00 in the afternoon, is that normal? And to get him to finaly eat which is around 12:30, I have to play with his food on the floor for like 15 minutes then once he eats the first piece he will eat more. And today before I got him to eat he was even dry heaving, I think from him not eating. So if I let him sleep all he wants(1:00 or maybe even later) can he go in a coma or something from being hypoglycemic and not eating. And Im not sure if hes being lethargic or tired, because when I get him up at 9:00-10:00 he will just sleep in the play pen even with the kids playing in the same room. And when I pick him up and show him toys he will keep trying to sleep. So my questions are, how can I tell if hes lethargic or just tired? Is it normal for a puppy to sleep that late? And why does he not want to eat until 12:00-1:00? Sorry so many questions. He has his next vet visit on friday but just wanted to know what you think. Any ideas are appreciated. Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am glad you are gong to the vet Friday. They can answer all your questions. I'm not sure how old your puppy is our how much he weighs but they can easily get hypoglycemic from not eating frequently when they are little. Puppies sleep a lot but they should have frequet periods of activity in between naps. Let us know what the vet says!

| Charlie will sleep in until 10 or later some days, but we stay up late and he isn't really a napper. I was nervous he wasn't getting the amount of food recommended on the bag because he wouldn't eat when first getting up either. I started putting up all his toys at night so when he comes from the bedroom there aren't distractions. We also do training first thing with kibble and a few Cheerios. Then I put his food down and he gets no toys until he eats a decent amount. Sometimes this takes a good 10 mins of him following me around but he finally decides ok, I'll eat. Then he gets toys. To get him to eat his kibble I started putting not even 1/2 tsp plain yogurt in his 1/4 cup serving of food, stirring it up. I do this 2/day. I wasn't really worried about his weight, he is nearly 4 lbs but worried about hypoglycemia and not getting daily vitamins, protein, etc. He hardly ever leaves his bowl with food now. I know they say feed 3/day but with the hrs Charlie and I keep twice worked better. Of course we train a few times a day so he is getting kibble I left out of the daily meals too. |
