| Should I be worried? Kaos went to the vet for checkup/shots like 2 weeks ago. He has reverse sneezed like 5x throughout his whole life, so I know what it is. But since the appointment he does it at least 10x a day. The vet said he was in perfect health w/bloodwork and everything, but now I'm worried. He did get the kennel cough vaccine in his nose too that day. Should I be worried?? After reading all the sudden things that happen to these little guys, I tend to over react to every little thing.

| Everytime I take mine in I make sure they give a shot not the nasal vaccine. I had them put in the files not to give it orally because it effected my babies. Now they have stopped giving through the nose and give everyone the shot. Maybe he is having a reacction to it. I would just ask for the shot next time. Hope its just something minor. But it sounds like to me it was the vaccine. |

| Sounds like the bordetella. It can give them a mild case of the disease. That is part of the reason why many of us just skip it (besides the disease itself is almost never life threatening and self limiting). I'd say have the vet take a look because it has continued. Some prefer to head off any secondary infections with antibiotics (although kennel cough itself will not be "cured" with them). It has to run its course if that is the problem

| Thanks for your reply. Kaos had kennel cough when I brought him home as a baby, and it doesn't sound anything like that. Is it possible that he is just irritated from the nasal injection? I am a little low on funds atm, so before I bring him in for antibiotics, would I be safe to hold off for a week or two to see if it lets up?

| Could be although just irritation after a week...? Did you listen to the different cough sounds in the YT Library? If you are sure it is reverse sneezing (esp. if a finger over his nose stops it), then you probably aren't risking too much to wait. If you aren't sure, then it probably shouldn't wait. Different schools of thought on the intranasal vs. injectable. It wasn't wrong to give it. Maybe the injectable would be a better choice from now on though. If I were giving it to my dogs, they would probably get one dose of the IN, then boosted with the injectable, then given the injectable every 6-12 months. But that said, I don't like it and try to avoid.
