| Need help with raw hide bones I forgot to ask the vet today when I took Chloe for her shots but I need some help on this one..... I have been allowing Chloe to chew on raw hide bones. I supervise this and only allow them around her so I can see when one is getting chewed up to the point that it could cause her harm. Her last visit to the groomer I was told NOT to allow her to chew on one because the pieces get in them and they end up having surgery. The groomer advised me to try the cow's hooves that she sells. She claimed they were safe and no small bits will get into her body and hurt her. Well I'm no genius but I noticed that the tiny pieces that come off that hoof are ever sharper and harder than the raw hide bone. I threw the hoof away. At least the raw hide gets moist and sorta melts but this hoof no matter how much she slobbers will not soften up. Any help, I appreciate. I need to give her a chew toy that is safe. |

| According to the FDA, rawhide can cause intestinal blockages and other problems. The recommendation is that owners not allow the dogs to ingest any part of the rawhide by taking it away when any part becomes soft enough to break away. Rawhide is also bleached. For me, it is not worth the risk. There is no 100% safe chew, but I prefer chews that are 100% digestible. Rawhide is not fully digestible.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have never given rawhide. I like Nylabones alright they are not Taycie's favorite but she will chew on them for a bit. I do however feel they are the safest. With Taycie's new strict diet she can have nothing but her RX food so that is the safest thing for us. Taycie also LOVES toys and balls so she chews on those alot as well.

| Thanks guys! I"ve already thrown all the rawhides away, and of course those cow hooves....now to find something she likes as well. She has a rubber chicken flavored one, but it's not her favorite. |

| I give Callie mostly bully bones and I recently saw smart bones at petsmart that are not rawhide and are supposed to be digestible and Callie loves them.

| I bought the antlerz with a z. Cost me $6 and Uni didn't care for it. She tosses it around sometimes if she's really desperate but doesn't chew on it. |

| I buy ours the CET chews from the vet. They don't particulary like them but thats what they get. I take them away when they soften up. I am scared to death of one of my babies getting choked. Bully sticks upset Kayla's tummy for some reason. I don't like them because they smell horrible. |

| Also for the rawhides, I think in addition to the choking part, it can harbor bacteria in it bc it stays moist for so long?

| Thanks everyone for your advice!! I would NEVER do anything to cause sickness or even death in my precious baby. I'm a huge animal lover, but this little Chloe has stolen my heart for sure! |

| I use to give Pnut the raw hide bones... (Before I knew anything) well he took a trip to the Vet bc of them! He only gets Bully stick, and Texas toothpicks. Even when he gets those he is being watched.. I also tried him on the Himalayan Chews but he will not chew on them, he will play with them, but that's about it.
