According to the FDA, rawhide can cause intestinal blockages and other problems. The recommendation is that owners not allow the dogs to ingest any part of the rawhide by taking it away when any part becomes soft enough to break away.
Rawhide is also bleached. For me, it is not worth the risk.
There is no 100% safe chew, but I prefer chews that are 100% digestible. Rawhide is not fully digestible.
