| Spaying Vs Neutering Recovery Time Is spaying a female harder on her than neutering a male? Ive read the recovery is longer. How was the recovery for your puppies? |

| I would say yes, removing the ovaries and uterus is much harder on a female dog than removing the testicles on a male dog. Recovery depends on the dog. Usually activity is restricted the first 24 hours and strenuous activity, running and jumping are discouraged for up to 2 weeks for both females and males.

| Yes. Riley was a little groggy the first night after I brought him home from his neuter.... but the next day it was as if Nothing had happened. It was really hard for me to keep him from running and jumping. The Vet gave us Rimadyl for pain. I had him neutered at Exactly 6-months. |

| Princess was pretty out of it for five days. She was on pain meds during that time & I think that's probably why. She restricted herself during that time & would whine for me to pick her up or not leave the room without her. After that she did fine.

| Spaying is more difficult since the removal of uterus and ovaries requires that not only do they have to cut open the skin and some membranes, but several layers of muscle must be cut through in order to reach the organs. Those muscles then have to be sewn back together, and I would think it would pull and hurt just trying to get up, stand and sit, much like after a c-section in a human. With neutering, it is basically the incision of skin and maybe some membranes, much simpler.
