| Confused - not sure need advice My Daisy is 2 yrs old and I've noticed lately when we play I can't play with her for more than 5-10 minutes without her starting to pant and act like she is having some sort of asthma attack. When that happends I usually spray her down with water and make her relax but last week the episode was so bad I thought she was going to die on me and I rushed her to the vet, by the time we got there she stopped the panting I explained the episode to the vet at which point he made me play with her, he watched her get excited, then listened to her heart and breathing he said she is fine from what he see's, he said she does have a touch of anxiety which I'm so confused as to how she can have anxiety she is never left alone she goes with me every where and I always play with her so how can she have anxiety, I read on another thread with breathing issues that the vet told that person it was an enlarged heart, mind you the vet I took my dog too did not do any xrays only blood work and listened to her heart and breathing but no xrays or ct scans or anything of that nature so I'm worried he misdiagnosed her and she does have some type of heart issue...just want to know what is everyone else's thoughts on this my spouse says I'm just being paranoid but I highly doubt that. |

| Your pup needs an xray to help rule out heart, lung, and tracheal issues. You arenot overreacting. A diagnosis is needed. If by overweight you mean by about 2 pounds, then cutting back the curent amount fed may work. If it's a bigger problem, the vet can give you a weight loss food. You can replace some of what you cut out of the diet with a non starchy vegetable like green beans to give a full feeling. The extra weiht will not help the breathing issues at all.

| She's tiny and according to the vet is 7 pounds over weight, she is 14 pounds and is just a lil bit bigger in height and length than my tiny lil Sabrina who is only 4 pounds...he didn't recommend a food for me to switch her too and I told him what I feed her he said to cut back I usually put one cup of her dry food in a bowl in the morning for her and sabrina to share and then another cup at night. He said I should feed them a half of a cup of food in separate bowls but that makes no sense to me because Sabrina is eating half of the food, she is a lil fatty herself. I think I need to find another veterinarian and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do as far as the vet is concerned for misdiagnosing my baby and not doing any test to rule other more serious issues out, I paid an arm and a leg for the vet visit and he did nothing, charged me $85 for the blood work alone not to mention the diagnosis fee and the appointment fee. |

| A pup that is 14 pounds but should be 7 is like a human that is 300 pounds but should be 150. It will interfere with energy level, joints, heart health, etc. Breathing is going to be harder. That weight has to come off immediately. If they get 2 cups bewteen them per day, then cutting that in half sounds good. They should be fed separately so your bigger one doesn't get more than the 1/2 cup the vet wants her to get. yes, an xray should probably be done. You could get a second opinion.

| Thank you so much for your response Elle I will start feeding them separately...if there is anything else I could do to speed up the weight loss process I would love to hear it...I'm going to try the green beans thing and instead of giving her a whole cup half in the morning and half at night I'll just give her the half in the morning and the green beans at night, do you think that will work?? Or is that too much of a change too fast??? |

| I give Jada green beans to fill her up as she tends to put weight on easily. I would split the kibble up between her morning and evening meal and add the green beans to both meals. That is what I do and I also do green beans for treats and just the occasional biscuit type treat.
