Your pup needs an xray to help rule out heart, lung, and tracheal issues. You arenot overreacting. A diagnosis is needed.

If by overweight you mean by about 2 pounds, then cutting back the curent amount fed may work. If it's a bigger problem, the vet can give you a weight loss food. You can replace some of what you cut out of the diet with a non starchy vegetable like green beans to give a full feeling. The extra weiht will not help the breathing issues at all.
