Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | ![]() if food doesn't work I just pill them with my finger. the trick is to get it as far back as possible by literally sticking your finger almost down their throat. this way they can't spit it back out. you have to get it past a certain point of their tongue otherwise they can flick it out.

| ![]() For Princess to take her Interceptor I have to crush her pill & "pick it up" with a little dollop of sour cream on my finger. She licks it right off every time. I think the smell helps disguise it, I don't know, but it works for us! ![]()

| ![]() I agree, pill pockets are the best thing invented since cotton candy. They work like a charm.

| ![]() .....word of caution on crushing or opening capsules of meds...if the medication is in capsule form for time release, you don't want to open it and give it to your baby all at once. They end up getting a "sudden" dose of medication instead of being released over a period of time. With a tablet being crushed, same thing could happen. If the tablet is coated, it may work on time release too. I made this mistake a few years ago. My Lucy wouldn't take her medicine so I crushed the tablet and put it in her food. I told my vet what I did...he said I could have killed her ! The type of medicine she was taking wasn't meant to be ingested all at once, it was a coated tablet that was to be released into her system slowly... |

| ![]() I feel for you as I did the all the foods to hide their glucosamine tablets. Each would work for a bit and then nothing. Thankfully, the vet turned us on to soft chews of Dasuquin, now they take that as a treat. When I had to pill my cats, I used a pill-er. I have see it at Petsmart. It's a long tube that you put the pill on the end and you can put it way back into their mouth and deposit it. I would deposit the pill, hold their mouth closed and then blow gently into their face. Worked everytime.

I think it's important to check how the pill should be ingested as it could be dangerous either way, either a rush of too much at once, or never getting the full benefit of the product if not chewed properly.

| ![]() Thanks everyone! I'm going to give the babyfood a try. I know pill pockets work, but I'm not a fan of using them and would opt for a more natural way. I also think Teddy would flip out if I tried to force it down his throat. He is very easily spooked due to his disabilities and I don't want to impeded his trust by doing anything to him that he himself does not want to do of his own freedom.

| ![]() I've always wrapped it in a bit of American (sandwich) cheese. Seems to do the trick. Also I have had to hold the mouth closed to make sure they swallowed. But the cheese is the best method I have found. Good Luck

| ![]() I've always used cheese with great success. Feed one lil bit of cheese, 2nd bit has pill in it, then 3rd bit of cheese. My pups have never known they've had a pill.

| ![]() I buy greenies pill pockets for my dogs. So far they have worked out as an awesome training treat for Teddie, and he seems to be addicted to the two flavors...(beef and duck). They are mushy like the consistency of fresh baked brownies and have a hole in the center that you can hide a pill. (I use these for my uber intelligent lab who hates pills) They also have a variety for dogs with allergies. Hope something like this helps you out like it does me. ![]() Here's a link to them online... http://www.greenies.com/en_US/Produc...cid=paidsearch
