Donating YT Addict | Weight gain post head injury It's been a rough go for my Ozzy. In Dec he suffered a serious head injury while at doggy daycare. We almost lost him but my little fighter recovered. It was one of the most horrible experience in my life. 4 months later he has zero neurological deficits. Truly a miracle. Our only issue is that he now has a voracious appetite and has gained 1lb and 11oz in 4 months!!! He was 5lbs and now he is 6.11. He gained 4 ounces in the last 4 weeks even though I have decreased his food and substituted carrots as treats. I'm not sure if this is related to his head injury. The only steroids he received was in the first 24 hours post accident. I am thinking of switching him from NB Duck Potato to California Natural lamb and rice low calorie diet. Does anyone have any experience with this food? Ozzy is allergic to chicken. Also if anyone has any ideas about the increased appetite I'm all ears. Thanks!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would ask your vet to run some tests to make sure nothing physical is going on like thyroid problems. If not, I know 2 of mine gained weight rather quickly but I switched them from California Natural lamb and rice to Nutro Ultra weight management and Solid Gold less active.I also started feeding them less. They were doing really well but lately due to some regression in potty training I have been reinforcing with treats and they have gained some back. Funny thing is my 3rd girl eats more than the other 2 and she keeps a very steady healthy weight. I hope you can get some answers.

Donating YT Addict | chicken=trouble Thanks Patti. I'm in a bit of a bind as all of the low calorie foods contain chicken and he can't eat that. The only low calorie I can find is the California Natural Low fat lamb and rice. It has 7% (i think) fat to the NB at 10%. I was thinking about the thyroid but he isn't showing any other symptoms like bad coat, less active etc. but I am going to get a T4 and a chemistry screen done just in case. Maybe the weight gain isn't related to his injury just the timing seemed weird. I am feeding him 4 times a day with 1/8cup each serving and then 1/8 cup of wet that's mixed with carrots. No treats except for a few cheerios when he potties. So in total he is eating 1/2 cup of food a day. Maybe I should not spread it out and feed him 2 times a day instead? He is so pathetic he lays on the floor near his dish and stares at me. I feel so bad for him!
