| SUPER ITCHY! Over it! Piper is going out of control with itching. It's getting completely annoying. She doesn't have fleas or ticks. I've scoured her and don't see any, nor have I found any anywhere else. She's been to the groomers and they haven't seen any either. She doesn't have any sores or raw skin or flakes or anything. I'm trying to figure out the culprit and in the mean time figure out what to do right now to soothe the itching. I haven't switched her shampoos or anything really. I switched her food to Orijen, but she started itching before I switched. I THINK. Is it just that it's cold outside and it's drying her skin out? HELP!??!?! |

| The cold could be making her itchy. Did you shampoo the carpets or use any different cleaning supplies? Maybe you could call the vet and ask their adivce. Good Luck!! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | try adding fish oil or coconut oil to her food and see if that helps. it may just be winter dry skin. If that doesn't help, i'd go to the vet How often are you bathing her? what are you using to bath her? and are you conditioning her hair as well?

YT 2000 Club Member | I agree with trying coconut or fish oil. Using fish oil has helped Tucker alot with his itchy skin. Your pup can also be allergic to something in the foods you are feeding.(eggs, protein source etc). You may have try one protien source at time to see, if you go that route give each source a few weeks cause it can take a few weeks for the old source to leave the body and the new one to start working. Good luck!

| I agree with others as to the coconut or salmon oils. Plus another thing to think about is that it might be allergies. |

| Bathe her with: Dr Bonner's Castille Baby Mild Liquid Soap It works wonders on their skin and hair...especially if they are sensitive or have allergies.

| Poor thing. I bet she is miserable too. I add Fish oil to my girl's food during the winter because the cold air and dry heat seem to dry her skin out. This helps. However, it could be an alergy problem too. When did you switch her food? |

| Thank you for that tip. I live with a Havanese and she has very dry skin, I think I will try it on her. |

| Sprinkle a pack of Aveeno 100% colloidal oatmeal bath treatment into a tub and mix with warm water. Let your dog soak for at least 15 minutes, it works like a charm. Also Try Halo dream coat oil . It moisture the dry skin and give my dog a shiny and healthy coat. . Last edited by kayi078; 12-13-2010 at 12:26 PM. |

| I would get her on Revolution... many noseeums here back East that like to hitchhike in the spring and fall, and all year round in the southeast.

| Where is she itching? Is it always in the same place? Or, is she itching in multiple places? |

| Its been unusually cold here in Orlando and its possible the cold weather is drying out her skin. I haven't noticed any difference with my 2 but its a possibility.

| It could be allergies or dry skin. A very easy to tell if it's allergies is to give her a Zyrtec (talk to your vet first) in the evening before bed. I have a dog with severe allergies (currently being treated with Atopica, allergy shots, and Zyrtec - successfully!) and I know so well how annoying/frustrating that constant itch can be. If her itching is just due to dry skin, you can try adding some salmon oil and flax seed oil to her diet. At this time of year, I would suspect that her itching is due to dry skin. That would make the most sense.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wouldn't use oatmeal on a possible allergy dog - this could exacerbate issues quite a lot. This is a good shampoo for allergy dogs: Amazon.com: "DermaPet" MalAcetic Shampoo for Dogs... Where/when is the itching? When did it start and when did it worsen? Check pollen.com and see how the pollens are in your area. Are they bad? This could be clue. That said, she could be allergic to dust, human dander, etc. If it's really becoming an issue, I'd recommend a Vet Derm - we see derms and they are just amazing with frustrating skin issues.
