average size 7 week puppy Hi All! I am new to the forum and so excited to bring my new puppy home on December 26. I spoke with my breeder this morning and she thinks my yorkie will be about 5 pounds. She is currently 1 lb 2 oz at 7 weeks (born on Oct 16). Do you think this is accurate? I want a healthy adult dog and I would hate for her to be anything less than 5 pounds, as I keep reading online that tiny yorkies are nothing but trouble!

Look at the chart and see if your baby is progressing along the chart. Some follow the chart, some don't. Ally was slightly over a pound when I brought her home at 8 weeks and at almost 2 years (12/31 , she is just over 3 lbs. Tia was 8 oz when we brought her home at 10 weeks and at 10 months she is slightly over 5 lbs. You just never know! Both are healthy little devils. Welcome and can't wait to see those pictures!!!!

thanks so much for the info!! have you noticed any problems with your yorkies, considering they are both so small? my breeder told me that addison (that's my puppy ! <3 ) is already on karo syrup once a day to keep her sugar levels up. i just want to make sure she is healthy. my previous yorkie was much larger (about 9-10 pounds) and the only problem she had was her teeth. I am doing lots of research but not experienced with really small yorkies.

Mine never really had problems with their sugar levels, but I did give them Nutrical if they seemed a little out-of-it. Just like skinbabies, you can give get a sense of when something is out of the norm. It gives Ally a sugar-high too!!!! I would suggest you keep that on hand. I would also ask the breeder if her pups and/or pup parents have sugar issues. Just make sure your baby is eating regularly to keep the levels maintained. As for the teeth, yorkies are prone to not shed all their baby teeth so they are taken out when they are spayed. Ally had 13 baby teeth removed and Tia only had two. My babies are healthy though... (Tia did come to me with giardia, coccidia, and ringworm. She, and everybody else she infected, recovered.) Oh, I would also suggest you take your baby to the vet immediately...just to make sure she is healthy. There are pet laws and the vet can catch it right away if your baby is sick so you can get back with the breeder for compensation. I could have gotten my money back if Tia was taken in immediately. I'm no expert...just giving a little of my experience.

thanks again for the advice! your pups are so cute. and yes, go bears! also - when do you think is a good time to spay? my breeder said 4-6 months is a good window. considering she is so little, i would hate to put her through surgery at such a young age. i was thinking closer to the 6 month mark. what are your thoughts? i love this forum! i have so many questions and its nice to speak with other yorkie owners to get their insight. a lot of the information available online is generic (i.e., general dog information) and yorkies are so breed-specific!

They say to get it done before their first heat. Both of mine were done between 7 and 8 months. I have read on here that somebody's baby went into heat at 6 months though. Ally was 3 lbs exactly and Tia was 4 lbs 2 oz when they had their little surgery. Neither one had any complications.

| My little ones were both spayed at 4 months old and they each were about 3 lbs at the time. So you have nothing to worry about. Good luck when you welcome Addison home.
