High protein doesn't cause liver disease, but dogs with liver disease should not have a high protein diet. Has TomTom had a bile acids test yet? All Yorkies should have one when they reach 16 weeks old.

It's primarily dogs on high protein kibble who have had elevated kidney values as kibble is very dehydrating. Protein is processed through the liver and kidneys so if your dog is chronically dehydrated from eating strictly a kibble diet, it puts strain on the kidneys. High protein canned, homecooked or raw don't usually cause any problems.

If I were going to feed kibble only I would choose a kibble that is lower protein. Castor-Pollux is an excellent food and Petsmart carries it.

Since Acana is high-quality protein it's easier for dogs to break down and digest. You have to worry when there's a high-protein dog food that's coming from low-quality. With Acana you don't need to worry about that!!!

Is it good to mix Castor-pollux with Acana dog dry food?? Or maybe castor-pollux in the morning and Acana at night?

I do a "rotation diet" which means I buy a bag of dog food and when we're finished with that one, I buy another. I think switching every day would possibly cause stomach upset. You could buy a bag of C&P and feed that for a month, then buy a bag of Acana and feed that for a month, etc.

Right now I'm rotating between Acana Grasslands and Go! Endurance. My Acana is almost gone and I think I'm going to buy a 4lb bag of Wellness Core next.
