| Kibble Choice on a Limited Income I have two issues to deal with. One, I am recently divorced school teacher making ends meet and I want to feed my baby a quality kibble, but cannot afford the more expensive brands. Two, my only local establishments to by from are vets, Petco, or Walmart. Can anyone give me suggestions? Btw, T.J. is six months old. Thanks in advance. |

| Natural Balance is a decent price and a good rated food that you can find at Petco.

| If you're looking for a grain-free food, try Taste of the Wild. For the price, it's totally awesome. I know around here it's about $10 for a 5-6lb bag, and that can last a little dog over a month. You'd be surprised where you can find some of these foods... if you go to their website, and type in your zip code, they will tell you the closest stores. Alot of hardware stores carry it, or Tractor Supply. Ace Hardware surprisingly carries some decent brands as well. Here ya go... Taste of the Wild : Dealer Locator There was like 6 or 7 locations that came up in Arkansas. As far as food sold at Petco, I would agree Natural Balance is probably decently priced. If you have a Costco near you, I often hear great things about Kirkland and apparently it's really cheap for the quality. Whole Earth Farms is another brand that is always having great deals, and is really cheap. petfooddirect.com currently has free shipping on Merrick (Whole Earth farms) products, and 20 percent off as well.

| I also feed Natural Balance. the Ultra small bites should work fine for him. Do not buy anything from Walmart in dog food or treats. Many of their products are made in China. |

| I suggest taking a peek @ Amazon. Not sure what price range you're considering for your pup, but I know I've found some great deals & as a teacher you can sign up for their student prime account (so long as you give them your .edu address) and get free 2nd day shipping. I did it and it's such a life saver. I feed Raw for Kasha but I free feed the Nature's Variety kibble which is about 15 for a 5lb bag. My mom feeds Acana to our 22lb Scottie which is about the same. She gets just about 3 weeks on it.

| The great thing about feeding a higher quality food is that you can feed so much less of it! When I fed kibble, I got my dog some of the highest quality holistic foods, and with having only one, four-pound dog, it really worked out that the food was costing only about $5 per month. And, I cannot say it enough: coupons! Compare prices and use coupons! A lot of pet supply stores may match their competitors prices or accept competitors coupons...depends on where you live, just ask at your local stores. You can usually combine manufacturers coupons and store coupons (again, depends on store policies) and it can add up to big savings. (Yes, I am a self-proclaimed crazy couponer and I can honestly tell you that I probably save as much as I would make working part-time....Not just on stuff for my dog...on a lot of things!) Continue to check around and online to find the best prices each time you need to buy food, or even in between, if you think you can get a super awesome deal. Contact different manufacturers and ask if they have coupons avaliable. Some may or may not, depending on the company, but it's worth asking. Sometimes if you contact a manufacturer and tell them you like their product they will even send you coupons for free products as a thank you for feedback and being a loyal customer. Good luck! I Hope you can figure out a food that works out well for both you and your dog. That's the biggest challenge sometimes: Just finding what works! But, once you do, I really think you can find a way to spend less and get more by being a smart shopper! |

| I feed Milo Natural Balance LID I get it at petco. The extra perk from them is that if you have a petco card (they are free) when you buy 10 bags of the exact same kind and size within one year they send you a coupon for 1 free bag. |

| I agree... Natural Balance is a good option at Petco. Email the company. They will send samples and coupons. And as mentioned there is the frequent buyer Natural Balance program at Petco.

| I have been feeding TOTW for over two years now. It can be purchased at Tractor Supply Company - of all places. I talked with a Nutritionist at a dog show recently who is personal friends of the two families that own TOTW. I have always been very pleased with how all of my dogs thrive on TOTW - from 6 week old pups who are just learning to "gum" dry food to our 14 year old senior Boxer who has a very sensitive stomach. If you contact the company and express an interest in their product, they may be able to help you in finding a retailer near you. Quote:

I feed NB LI Brown Rice and Lamb. Great food, decent price and they are tiny so a bag goes a long way.

| look at this website- Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble, take a look at the foods carried at petco and walmart (won't find a good food) and them make your own decision based on what you can afford and what is best for your dog. |

| When determining the expense of dog food, I strongly encourage you to "do the math." The higher quality kibbles appear to be more expensive, but they really aren't. The cost of the individual bag is higher, but there aren't any fillers and your dog will eat much less of it, and the bag will last much longer than the crappy, cheap stuff. In many cases, the high quality food is cheaper per day than the crappy stuff. See this link: http://www.naturalnews.com/024337_fo...gredients.html When you can feed the best and actually save money (and probably have fewer health problems & lower you vet bills, too), it's a win-win. Good for your pocketbook and good for your dog.

| Wellness is sold at PetCo and is a good food!! Also, Acana has done wonders for Bandit. It's just under $40 for a 15 pound bag but it lasts two 5-6 pound dogs over 3 months. Since it's such a high quality food they don't need to eat that much of it. BTW I'm a teacher too so I understand the income issue lol |
