| Help! Itchy ears w/ brown, flakyness inside ear right where hair starts. I noticed a few days ago that Ella had itchy ears that were a bit red. This is not unusual for her, since she seems to be very prone to ear infections. I started using zymox enzymatic solution that my vet had given me last time she had an ear infection. On closer observation, however, I noticed that where the hair starts on the upper part of the ear (on the front of the ears, not the back) her skin looks sort of brownish-dirty and flaky. If I mess with it it sort of makes her skin flake, but it doesn't seem to rub off. Could this be mites? Something else? I've never seen anything like this before. |

| Always best to have a vet check these things if we have questions. You don't want it to be something that could get worse. Good luck!

| Now I noticed there's also blackish-dirty spots as well...intermixed with the light brown. |

| Could be flea dirt, could be mites, could be bacterial infection, could be yeast infection.... As I suggested, a vet is where I would go with mine. Sometimes dogs don't show ANY symptoms and can have nasty infections...by the time they show them, they are a real mess. You cannot rely on their behaviors to diagnose.

| Sounds like yeast. Living in Florida yeast infections in my boys' ears, especially Niko, are a constant threat. Your vet will give you drops to put in each ear for about two weeks. Don't let it get too bad, go asap to the vet and get the furbaby checked out.
