Yes, it could be too much protein for his system...we had that problem with one of our males last year when we were feeding EVO. I feed mine Fromm's grain free formula and they are doing great on it...it's higher protein but I don't think it's as high as EVO. Plus, didn't Procter and Gamble just buy out Innova? I wonder if they changed the formula or something?

Orijen has the highest protein content of all the kibbles. What is main meat source of the kibble you were feeding before? Some dogs don't do well with red meat. Compare the protein/calories per cup of Nature's Variety and Evo. Are you feeding too much of the Evo?

You said that you just recently changed foods...well perhaps he is still getting accustomed to the change, especially if you have had him on another brand for awhile. I would give it a month before you try another food with them. However, in consideration that PG just bought out Innova, maybe you should get him on another before you have to buy a bag of the New stuff that PG is putting out. I find it so discouraging that another quality food producer has sold out to a conglomerate.

Crude Protein (min): 35.0% Crude Fat (min): 22.0% Crude Fiber (max): 2.0% Moisture (max): 10.0% And the Evo has 42% That is a big difference to him I guess.. Is 35% a good amount or should I go lower?

Ya I did, I honeslty dont think it is because I changed foods, I have done it before and he was never senstive to it. I think its the food in it self..

Check out Acana, made by Champion, the same manufacturer as Orijen. Acana grain free formulas have less protein than Orijen. I started Maximo on the Grasslands formula this week. So far, so good.

The kibble are disks, about 3/4 the size of a U.S. dime. On one of the Acana threads, Britster posted pictures. If you are familiar with Natural Balance products, the kibbles are about the same size, but require more chewing. Some YT members break up the kibbles. However, Bon Bon's tiny Pippin doesn't have any trouble eating Acana kibble. Do a YT search for Acana threads.

| I'm just gonna copy/paste what I've written before, lol: One thing is over feeding is a huge problem. People just feed entirely too much. Also, grainfree, higher quality food, you're going to have to feed less of, or you will definitely get runny stools and/or more poop. For example, Jackson, my 15lb'er eats 1/2 cup a day of Acana Grasslands (plus wet food and treats). If he was eating Purina, he would need 1 cup a day or more. Acana is a really calorie dense food. More calories = less you need to feed. All dogs, including Yorkies, pretty much are wolves. They are taxonomically the same species, and physiologically and anatomically the same and actually share 99.8% of the same DNA. Size and appearance are in the less than .2% differences, therefore I like to feed a food that is 'close' to what the wolves eat in the wild (ok, we know wolves aren't getting served kibble in a bowl... but it's the closest you can get, IMO, besides feeding raw which many do). High plant based protein is not good for any dog, healthy or not. High animal based protein is good. The better high protein foods derive most of their protein from animal meat. The early research that convinced people of the myth of high protein damaging dog's liver was done on rats which are omnivores and their digestive system works entirely different than dogs which are carnivores. Rat's bodies are not designed to handle high protein the way dogs are. I am not aware of any research on dogs that points to high protein damaging dog's liver. Anyways, it's just my personal preference to feed grain free, low carb, meat protein rich foods. Ultimately, though, I think it's what works best for you and your dog. I've done alot of research and have finally settled that this works best for Jackson! Btw, I feed both Acana Grasslands and tried out a sample bag of Orijen Regional Red (38% protein) that he liked as well. After this Acana is finished, Orijen will be the next big bag we feed. I also feed Go! Endurance with great results. Those 3 foods are our rotation right now, but he's been eating Acana the longest with great success
